Default Talladega Superspeedway Solo I - June 23

Anyone from here going to the SOLO I at Talladega tomorrow (June 23)? I'm taking the CRX over. Should be pretty fun. If you are SOLO I legal (or IT or more), you really should come out. It should be a riot!

Giles, you coming??

Doing the Road Atlanta thing with Porsche Club.

Not too fond of the Talladega thing. 140mph with walls... I'll pass.

Yeah, I know. I am actually a little nervous. I'm don't plan on running 10/10ths for the same reason. But, I want the chance to drive on the that track. I figure maybe a nice leisurely cruise at about 115-120 in the CRX should be nice. I'm guessing our car may have 130+ in it now that it is in full IT trim and at minimum weight, but I don't plan to find out.

It'll be interesting for sure. I'll report back on Monday if I survive!!

Well, I'd say the event was so-so. For the $125 I spent, I just didn't get enough track time. However, given the venue, I can't complain to much. Part of the reason I was there was purely for the thrill of driving on the speedway.

We ran the track with two chicanes, one on the back and one on the front. I was generally fastest coming down the front of the tri-oval. I have the CRX speedo pegged (125 MPH), so I am guessing I was pushing 130. Car was surprisingly stable but we are in full ITA trim now. I hit between 120-125 on the long back straight before breaking hard to take the chicane at about 65.

The banking in the corners was amazing!! If you weren't at 75 mph or so, the car felt like it wanted to slide to the bottom.

All in all, I had fun. Would have liked to have had more than four runs, but, the drive from ATL wasn't bad, the weather was nice, and the speed was awesome!!

Hey Alex. Ted's competition license expired because he didn't get two races in by the end of March. They would not give him any kind of an extension, thus, he must go to a drivers school before he can run any more IT. We are thinking about going to the Sebring school on July 14-15 so to can get receritified.

I got my physical for the Talladega event, so if I can drop a few pounds, and the car is still in one piece, I will be shooting for the Roebling Double school next February to get my license.

I trust you got my check? How are things going for you guys??

Yep, the kumhos are now officially yours.

Things are going good for us. Too bad about Ted's license.. Well hopefully we'll see both you guys run ECRs next year!
