shifter kart experience
I hate my neighbor.
My neighbor is a fanatical shifter kart guy. he won the 2000 National championship in F125 (autocross) in his shifter.
He got me involved in shifter karts.
I hate him.
So, he loads up the 125cc Shifter and his fast toy (as if the 125cc wasn't fast enough)...which is a 250cc (60hp/30tq).
So, he's unloading the 250cc kart... leaves the 125cc on the trailer.
he runs once, brings it in... and says:
"So, where's your jacket?" Implying he wants ME to take the 250 out.
When i was watching him out on the track. One guy in a 125cc shifter was accelerating, full throttle probably going quite fast...my neighbor was in the 250cc chasing him.
Imagine a LS1 chasing down a Civic Si. that's how fast the 250cc caught up with the 125cc.
So, i get in it, thinking i'm gonna die.
This kart is fast. I hate my neighbor.
The kart is sooo fast, that my neckbrace fell off and i had problems trying to keep my helmet's visor from flipping open.
Getting back into my car, EVERYTHING seems to be moving soooo slowly. I can imagine this making someone a VERY VERY fast driver... Everything happens soooo blistering fast that it's hard to concentrate. I couldn't hit the apexes at all and i was sooo far off the driving line...and i still was pretty fast. This kart REALLY covers up driver error.
I wish i had pictures of the kart lifting the front inside wheel around almost every turn... it sticks and accelerates better and faster than anything i have ever driven. absolutely insane. My arms are sore, my back aches, my ribs are sore, and the grin on my face is permenant.
I hate my neighbor.

Re: shifter kart experience (gsober)
There was a shifter cart that came down to an autocross not too long ago, and almost won the autocross. Unfortunate for him, my friend in his S/C Integra GS-R beat him by a tenth of a second, only because the shifter cart ran out of gearing to go faster.

Re: shifter kart experience (frogsr)
Dave Hironaka? We have a mailing list for F125 autocrossers.
Mine has been apart for well over a year, just fired up the engine last night for the first time after the rebuild. Neighbors loved it I'm sure at 10pm in my garage.

If an integra beat a kart at an autocross, there was something seriously wrong with the kart or its driver.

Kam, where was this? Looks to be off of 15 or 95.
Take I-15 towards Stateline and exit Sloan. Go under the bridge, go right on Vegas Blvd... and it's on the left side about 2 miles down.

If an integra beat a kart at an autocross, there was something seriously wrong with the kart or its driver.Well, it was a Corvette club event, meaning the course was big and open. The cart was topping out at about 60-70 mph, considering it was only one gear. The Integra that beat him was JRSCed, had springs, 5 way adjustable struts, sway bar, R compoud tires, and a good driver.
Shifter karts have 6 gears... and are usually geared to hit 100mph. There's no way a shifter kart, even driven 50% is going to be beaten by an integra in an autocross.
and it's "kart".

Re: shifter kart experience (Driven)
plus that guy is crazy. has no long sleeves on and driving a kart. I've learned that you need:
- neck brace
- elbow protection (the engine is right there and hitting your elbow on a hot engine hurts)
- rib protection (stress fractures anyone?)
- gloves
- something to tie your pant legs so they don't flap open
- and lots of water.

Re: shifter kart experience (itr1244)
At Seattle Int'l Raceway (now Pacific Raceway) the 250cc PSGKA "enduro" karts used to turn times that weren't far off of a Formula Toyota Atlantic time...
