Default Recomendation for a hpde car: integra gsr vs 96-00 civic hatchback

So im in a limbo on on which to pick as a fun and balance hpde car. Consediring each car has the same mods: same engine and same suspension set up, which one would you pick and why? Im trying to decide if i should pick up a bard ek hatch or a gsr.

Do you have a swap in your eg? How do you feel about the risk of getting your car impounded if you get pulled over? Just wanted to get ppls thoughts on that.

If you have fears of getting your car impounded then dont get a car with an illegal swap.
Its as simple as that. BAR'D all the way!
Or second scenario, you have to to go the smog referee, costs vary... because your car was deemed a gross poluter by the PD.
So you have to go the ref station, appointment only on the weekdays.
Ya have to go through the visual inspection, then the actual smog.
If you pass be sure to get a bar decal on it, then there is step two.
Traffic court. Get up early in the morning about 5am
Lines start early and most courts lines start at 6 am just to get one of 100 possible slots in for the 9 am docket. pay cour fees.. about 35.00
Prove the cars engine is legal (smog certificate) to the judge and you are free.
Keep in mind if you dont get this resolved the ticket turns into a fine.

As fas as the chassis.. either one will work out fine. pick one.

Dirty: awesome response. I def agree on on getting a Bard civic if i was to get one. I just dont want to deal with the hassle of potentially getting pulled over.

If you have the BAR decal police will have no call to hassle you.
One look at the decal and the event is over.
Doesnt mean they will leave you alone.. if you are out raising hell expect to get pulled over.
Having the car legal is always the smart move.
Craigslist is littered with cars that wont pass smog nor are they bar'd
Yet these monkeys think their cars are all worth 5K because of an engine.LOL
Its worth what people are stupid enough to pay.

If you get a civic with a BARd setup then i doubt they'd hassle you over the motor. They'll most likely go after the obvious such as exhaust, ride height, etc.

(I see you live in DB, cops in our neck of the woods have a dim view on imports so you should keep a low profile to and from the track. ex. quiet exhaust )

Def one of the reason while im looking for a Bard civic or gsr is where i live. There has been rolling smog checks every where. If i was to get a bard civic i would leave it as it and just concentrate on suspention and brakes as well as my driving.

At this time there is no 96-00 bard civic thats for sale.
I can easily pick up a GSR.

This is your hatchback, no? Why not stick with it rather than jumping into a new chassis? Im guessing its not swapped, and you want something a little quicker?

Yea, that whole suv bar stuff is rediculous.

Id suggest sticking with that chassis and swapping in a legal engine and getting it bar'd. That way you already know of any issues with the car, and have had some seat time in it.

Getting in another modified car can be a pita at times.

Agreed. Sometimes it can take a while to get the newer car back to the gains you made in the older car.
The B20 is a pretty formidable engine on the track, I know a good many who use them and maybe one day i will too.
Cant beat it for being cheap and have a reasonable amount of power.

Over all the best thing to do in our unfortunate situation here in california is to do the legal thing and not worry about the hassle of having your car cost you more time than its worth.

How some of these kids can spend all that money on a car, engine and the aftermarket parts is beyond me.
Then when they finally get caught the car is a massive part out on craigslist or being sold as is, passing it off to the next poor unsuspecting fool who wants a hot rod.
Thats a headache i learned accidentally because i didnt know enough about the smog rules before i bought a car that i thought was legal back in the day.
I'll always steer someone with less experience away from the illegals and hope the influence trumps their know it all friends.
Often times it doesnt and they come back to you wishing they has listened.

This is what makes this forum awesome! Specifically talking about the road racing forum. I have def learned a lot.

I would have to agrre with the b20 being a good motor. If it was any other state i would keep it and go vtech. And every one made a really good point of have to relearn the car characteristics. I didnt even think of that!

So with all the infomation gained, i will keep the car, look for a 96-01 b18c1 block and start researching getting this bad boy bard.

I picked up a 99 GSR clean title, with high mileage and the AC still works for $1500 just north of Long Beach. Engine and transmission are still in good working order as well. It is well on it's way to becoming my track *****.

Integra steering rack/ratio > Civic rack/ratio

Emissions and swap legalities, though location-specific, can be a serious hassle.

If you drive normal and mind your business there's really nothing to worry about. I have a 98 EK9 clone and I love it beating it on the track. I had a DC 2 and I hated it, just to heavy.
