Rear extended top hat
Hey
I've been using extended top plates with great results in the front of my track car, with OEM lenghts Koni sports. I've been using them in the rear of my car too, without asking myself too much questions.
Appart from limiting the droop travel...contributing to inside wheel lift...what's the downside of using them in the rear...?
Do we really have to extend the travel of a moderatly lowered track car running correct (600-700lbs) spring rates ? I cannot imagine missing rear shock travel, even with an anti-performant drop. This is with the use of a 22mm ITR rear bar.
My girlfriend is about to buy them for her track car. Her spirits is so unbiaised on things she doesn't need...she asked me why would she get 4 extended top hats, if her car was to possibly bottom out only in the front (when I explained her the reason she needed them in the front).
Thanks, especially from her.
Patrick

Re: Rear extended top hat
only two reasons to use them
1. shock body hits bump stop coz you don't have enough compression travel
2. springs come totally loose when rear of car is jacked up
take a look under the car some time to check how much compression travel you have and need

Re: Rear extended top hat
The car isn't bottoming out in the rear, tested with a tie wrap.
I am clueless at if rear top plates are still usefull in the rear. Are the Koni Sports effective valving rated the same at any piston lenghts ? I would suppose yes, linear.
As far as the spring coming loose...swaybar and slow rebound doesn't make it an apparent problem even in long turn...
All in all, is it pretty useless.
