Default quick questions

i have a '91 civic hatch and i will be installing kyb agx shocks that im getting from a friend for practically nothing and i would like to install some race springs on them... this a weekend/race only toy and i dont care about ride quality... i was thinking about going with some:
approx. 800 lb. front
approx. 650 lb. rear

does this sound pretty good? also what size(I.D.) spring would i need for those shocks? has anyone had any experience with them? thanks for your time guys

Both Neuspeed and Eibach have spring kits for your car/shock setup. If you want a fully adjustable setup then go with Ground Control, assuming that you are not in a "stock" class. The rates you are asking about will probably be too high for the AGX shocks. Our CRX is a dedicated track car and the rates on it are much lower (400/500) in my case. Some folks use 500+/600+ on this car with Koni "yellow" SPort shocks with no shock issues.
Just my thought on this

Would those shocks handle a spring rate like that?

right now i have stock shocks on it with some ebay coilovers that i got for $75 shipped... im actually very happy with them... i dont get any excessive noise and the spring rates are 450 front and 350 rear... it rides good but its starting to get a little bouncy... thats why im getting the kyb's... i figured that if i set them at the highest setting that they would be able to handle a higher spring rate... thanks for the input

I wouldn't go with the higher spring rate with the kyb's. The spring rate you have is in the ballpark of what most of the ef civics are running. However, when you swap out the shocks you might consider swapping the springs you currently have on the car from front to rear. The stiffer springs in the rear will allow the car to rotate better and the softer rate in front will help give you more traction up front.

sounds awesome... ill do that... ive done a little research and this is the way i think i might want to set my car up... password jdm 3 pt. front strut tower brace, a no name rear strut tower brace that looks pretty beefy(hey i can get it for $15 so why not? ), st rear sway bar, the shock spring setup i already have, poly bushings all around, and i think im going to get together with a well known fabricator that i know and see if we can make some of those front fender braces ive seen around here... also is there a company that makes camber plates for the EF? or are they universal? thanks a lot guys

Might want to keep going Dont believe everything you read on H-T or the interweb... lots of stories about "I installed X part and it was fantastic!" but thats probably their wallet talking.

Wasting your time/$$

Good choice

Too much spring for those shocks - 400/500 is fine, but ride quality wont be great

Replace them with new OEM rubber, and use a mugen trailing arm bushing replacement.

Camber plates wont help you, you dont have struts.

so basically what your saying is that instead of spending my time and money on stiffening up the chassis i should just get a rear sway bar, new bushings, and use my spring, shock setup(350/450)? im still not done researching- my research will probably go on for a while and will most likely include multiple suspension setups and tons of different parts... instead of getting the camber plates should i look at getting some adjustable upper control arms? or should i not worry too much about camber? thanks a lot guys and keep the suggestions coming

Or you could find out what the 'fast' guys running the same car are using and just use what they have and work on the driving part Simple, easy, proven to be effective.

Sort of like the old tried and true. http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com/ChrisTech.htm

Crimson - Not sure what your plans are for the car, but the link above is a good starting point for the ef chassis. This is an autocross STS setup but with a few changes should transition to track days fairly well.
