Project J32 AP2
Project J32 AP2: Our name for the roadrace S2000 we've been building for the last some months now. The J32 is the engine we're using its a 3.2 liter V6 from an Acura TL-S. AP2 is the chassis name for our 05 S2000.
Some of you have been following our progress on this build for some time on the Facebook page -
I finally decided it was time for a build thread.
Pics and definitions will follow over this weekend. Its not completely finished just yet but you've all been waiting long enough for a thread
This is what it looked like at its last track day before it was stripped down for the swap

Eventually John (the owner of the car & one of the owners of Trackforged) decided he wanted a V6 S2000, one thing John repeated over and over was that this would yield similar HP to a supercharged f20/22 but insuring that he has about 200tq at 4k rpm, sounds pretty good for a race car that should weigh between 2300-2500 lbs when finished.
John decided the J32 Acura V6 from the TL-S was what he wanted. So we found a nice one with low miles.
With the engine purchased we had to decide on engine management after scouring the TL and J32 forums we decided the AEM (an uncommon model for the J32) was the best choice for this build
Decided our custom front was causing a little too much drag and picked up a C-West bumper
Decided it could use a better radiator. Also the old splitter made from ABS plastic was looking tired, so we made a new one of birch wood. Headlights transformed into covers, :shout: "because racecar"!
The already light chassis went through the extreme Jenny Craig treatment the trunk area was removed and the fender wells were lightened.
Then we stripped it all back down and had the whole thing media blasted. Was nice, but a pain in the *** to get all the sand out of the body!!! Might consider stripping it my self next time.
Some notching required
We took our first opportunity ( :sun: is rare in Portland OR,) to throw some paint on our cut and trim chassis.
Who needs fender liners!
With the chassis lightened, caged and painted. It was time to move on to the next stage.
With the engine usually installed into FWD cars it called for some custom headers, so that's what we did next.
Random but cool, wide angle/convex rear view
y pipe
to the muffler
New custom Chromoly Control Arms for the S2k, Full Spherical, lighter than stock and no binding! Replaces all lower control arms, and total loss in weight is 13 lbs between four arms. Plus adustable roll center and more camber adjustment over stock alignment bolts
Hard Race bump steer spacers.
Custom Oil pan. The factory pan on the J series hung too low.
Sphericals installed close ups.
Splitter easily good for 200lbs
Front brake ventilation in place (not finished obviously). The open space on the driver side of the radiator is going to be utilized for an intake snorkel!
another UTH shot here you can kinda see or at least imagine how the intake/snorkel could be incorporated.
Trackforged Hood spacers of course (6mm)!
We picked up some rear over fenders ASM replicas to be exact form a long time friend here on these forums Vietstylezz our goal is to run 295s square on this car
first startup!!
Fuel lines all hooked up idle & Rev, in video below. 8/30 It kind of reminds me of the old super gt (I think) turbo NSX's. It's way better than I expected it to sound.
AEM ecu has arrived! 11/6/12
Custom Bilstein asn shocks and Hypercoil springs came in today! 11/28/2012
Bilstein ASN. Custom valved by Ram Engineering for the S2k. Full aluminum shock, Hypercoil springs, not only will they outperform but they weigh overall 11 lbs less than stock setup!
2-12-2013
Tune isn't complete though  basically it is tuned enough to drive, but still needs some work mechanically. There is a butterfly valve in the intake mani that isn't opperating properly and a couple other little things before we do a final tune.
For now it is making 281whp & 235wtq.
More coming!

Re: Project J32 AP2
We adapted the stock AP2 transmission to work with the engine. We also found that this allowed us to simply bolt up the lightweight clutch from the F22 wich was far lighter than anything else we could find for the J32. Tricky part was getting the starter tucked in there and mounted high enough not to snag on anything.
We do plan on running the car competetively, hopefully next year. It was built with ST class in mind, see if we can knock a few BMW's off the thrown around here!

Re: Project J32 AP2
Yeah bone stock internals to get it up and running. There is a 10lb/hp rule in ST, wich is one of the main reasons for going with this engine. Way more torque with relatively the same hp.
After tuning we will have to see how far we are from matching this number.
