progress on the project
way too much down force on the front, loose the forward part of the splitter. And those corregation holes on the panel are going to be like a parachute. Good luck with that design.

Though I'm not sure why that would be too much downforce on the front (given I've seen lots of very similar designs on other HC cars and they all seem to drive well and fast), I was wondering about the "corregation holes" as well. Are you going to plug that up or something?

the corrugation holes are so small that i highly drought they will cause any ill effects (and they do go all the way through).
how much down force do you think this will generate? if i remember right the splitter has to be level. I don't see it creating downforce as reducing drag from under the car
BTW - lookin great.. now stop building and get racing !

Too much downforce in the front? Dude, if you want a fwd car to be fast you gots to know that glued front & loose rear is the way to go.

well im no master in Fluid Dynamics, and i only know what i have read in books and on the internet about fuild dynmaics and what is has to do with a production based race car. It may horribly fale, and it may work great, im betting it will get the job done though.
And the corrogated holes, will be taken care of, those pictures were taken after i finished construction of it, it got it first coat of paint, and will recive soem tap around the front edge of it, for the reason to block off the holes and to keep it from sliting peoples ankels.

I have a very good idea as to what is too much down force because the car I have supervised and constructed has on record been doing 2:14's at the long course at VIR. We have done both and found that with our application that the air dam is more than sufficient (94 del Sol). Your results may vary. Seriously though the hatch will have different aero requirements but you are going to have to be the ginnie pig on that. You definetly are on the right track just don't be afraid to make changes to the aero to balance the car out. All in all the car looks great the only thing I would have done is gone with an LS instead of backing up to an SOHC. Lots more potential in that engine. Good luck and hope to see it rolling soon.

alright well i have been REALLY REALLY laggin on getting this thing going after i got the motor out of the machine shop i lost steem becuase i got the bill and it was a theoretical kick in the *****. but im over it and happy i did it this way.
The motor was completly rebuilt, bottom end blue printed and balanced, new OEM rods and pistons, .25 over, slightly shaved head to bumb up the compression the legal amount, new valves, new springs, new guides, HC legal port-N-polish, ect.
The tranny is a 93 civic si tranny with the SRR 4.7 FD, act cluch and clutch master flywheel. The tranny was really nasty looking so i decided to paint it. I went to kragen and found some aluminum high temp panit figure it would work great, got the first coat on the tranny and was amazed that it was BLING BLINGNNN.
The vlave cover had the orginall paint striped off and had a weak polish job on it, well my tranny was too much bling for me so i picked up some more high temp paint that i thought would match the color of the car, called "old ford blue" and it does a decent job of matching.
still need some small parts for the motor does any one happen to have a spare fly wheel cover thing? the part that covers up the bottom of the fly wheel near were the oil pan is?? if so let me know.
here are some shots of the motor

you can see the blingin tranny its BLINDING

I also made a custom gauge pode kinda gettho lookin but the gagues will be easy as heck to read

Cool!
Welcome to the world of sohc!
Sounds like alot of good work went into that motor,
what kind of cam are you running though? didn't see that mentioned.
And what CR is allowed? Imo the combo of those two is very important if you want to make some n/a sohc power..
Did you paint the block/head also? Or are they just crazy clean?

correct, although im in the market for a SOHC VTEC long block, and i think i might try and mess around with building an H1 motor. 170-180 whp, with the custom ZC/SI gear box, and 2000lbs i think would be really potant. but i need to get this thing running first, maybe by the end of this weekend the motor will be in.

Good work, interesting I never knew thats how they built the front bumper splitter/air damn, makes sense but I always thought it was just a big lip like | never knew there was anything that is horiziontal under it...is anything simular done to the rear so air doesn't get trapped there?
but what do y'all mean by corregation ? the small holes of the screws or something else?

If the class rules allowed it i would run something but Honda challange rules only allow front spliters, and nothing can extend beyond the front tires.
corregation- best way i can think of it is look at a bee hives, tons of holes with material surroound them. thats how this stuff is.
this is the best picture i can find to discribe it.

i have seen people run it like that, and can think of a few cars that do run it like that but, in what i understand of fluid dynamic the horizontal peace is what really creates the down force.

alright well i have a pretty big update here, the car STILL DOESN'T run, but i got the cage put it, have a new seat, and the window net will be in the car by the end of the week.

I like what you've done so far.
I just purchased a 94 ex coupe, and hope to turn it into a Honda Challenge car or HPDE in two or three years. For now I am goin to autox it and save up for driving/racing school.
