Practicing Auto-X
Other than going to more events...what is the best way to practice driving an auto-x event?
I've thought about taking some cones to an empty parking lot and setting up some specific elements to work on, like a slalom. Has anybody ever done anything like this, and did you find it useful (I know it would be fun)?

I'd like to practice on my own or w/ a small group of friends. But, as soon as I start setting up cones, cops would be all over me
I guess mental training is the only way to go

Unless you,or someone you know, has a PRIVATELY OWNED, very large plot of land with a nice unobstructed parking lot in it, I don't think there is any real place to practice safely without fear of the cops coming after you for trespassing or something like that.
I practice with Sports Car GT at the Ft. Worth Nationals track with either an Rx-7, Mr2, or Integra...fairly realistic handling, just like at a real auto-X almost
... That's how I will be doing most of my auto-xing for a while though - until my real integra is put together and ready to go racing

I would imagine you would get just about everything thrown at you including but not limited to:
1) Wreckless driving
2) Speeding
3) and I'm sure anything else that applies
Keep it at the track or find a buddy who owns a private air strip...or something along those lines. Otherwise you could get in a whole load of trouble.

An idea:
Talk to event organizers and show up early and help set up the autocross and stay late to tear down autocross. In return, they can give you free fun runs at the end of an event.
Or somehow convince the organizers to stay later and have dollar runs at the end of events.
