(This or That) please help
im looking into getting into autocross and road racing i currently have a base model 99 prelude..i was wondering if i should keep it or try and get a s2000
do you have lots of money to throw around?
Id say keep what you got and do a couple hundred auto-x's first.. thats what i did , then do some track days, and then go W2W

i have some cash to throw around and no i havent done any autocross before i just rather do that then drag because it takes more skill i think
Do a couple of auto-x's with the prelude, and then buy the S2000. it'll make you appreciate it more.
S2000 is an awesome HPDE car (just expensive to fix, relative to my '92 hatch).

I'll second that... better to start out with something simple and get some experience then move up.

Yup. I wouldn't buy a different car before you start out.
Do a whole bunch of autocrosses, and you may also want to consider some HPDE events on racetracks, with groups like NASA, BMW CCA, etc. You'll get a lot more track time, at higher speeds, than at autocrosses.
Once you get a lot of experience, then you might want to consider other cars. Or, you might not.
It's also worth noting that a lot of groups don't allow convertibles in HPDE events. (Many do, but many others don't, and still others only allow it with a full roll cage.)

After doing some HPDEs with the lude, maybe you'll be tempted to purchase an already build racecar. Again, this all depends on what you consider road racing (HPDEs or wheel-to-wheel). The S2K is an awesome car, but there's a reason I race my '87 lude. When (not really if) the lude gets damaged, I'm okay with that more or less. If my S2K gets damaged, I'm no so okay with it.
You've got plenty of options in CA to choose between.
