Over heating problem??
I did some road racing tuesday night...and my VX/B18B was overheating....
I know, the single core VX rad is quite small for the B18 application...but the rad is almost new...and the engine is a 97 B18B1 in great shape and it was swapped 4 days ago (the coolant level was good...new oil)
after 10 minutes of road racing, I had to quit the session
the coolant was leaking a lot from the overflow tank(from overheating) and the coolant level was low (a lot of coolant went on the floor)
anybody have the same overheating problem??
Does a new rad will do the job right or the problem is not the rad?
tanx!

get the daul core delsol unit and install the a/c hole block off plate if your a/c is removed.

single core unit with the stock block off plate.

I don't know why you'd be overheating on a roadcourse... if your speeds are up, you shouldn't have to worry about it really, so it could be the stuck thermostat that was mentioned before.
Also, The night I put the new motor in my civic, I took it out after filling the radiator to what I thought was full... I mean I had topped off the radiator a couple times. What I didn't realize, was that I only had the coolant in the radiator and hoses, it hadn't quite made it all the way to the block and headyet... Found that out when I took it for the first ride, it started over heating like a sonofabitch. Filled it up right away and has been doing fine since.
Also, check to make sure your fan is working in the car too, my coolant temp sensor went bad and the fan would never turn on, so letting the car sit for like a couple minutes would instantly get the car running real hot.
Those are just a couple of suggestions

Those are some good suggest....I don't think that the engine is suppose to overheating also, on the road course...
I'll change the thermostat...make sure there's no leak...fill it up again...and see next week if it's still heating..

I'm guessing the ambient temp was on the cool side since you mentioned this happening at night? A properly functioning VX radiator w/ a b18 in that condition shouldn't overheat that quickly. 10min is just too soon
You might also want to check if the radiator cap is working properly. A faulty rad cap will lower the boiling point.

does it could be my head gasket?...the water was comming out from my plastic tank...and the rad water level was quite low...there was a lot of prestone alll the way from the beginning of the pit to the place my car was...
And I went on the road to cool everything down, the temp was going down...then up then down again...until it went down to stay....

I had to suck all the air out of the hoses, til they all collapsed, then put the hose down into a bucket of coolant, and it sucked it in until it was full. I just had to add a little more, and it has been great ever since.

Did you open the bleeder screw when filling up the system? If not, a bunch of air gets trapped in the head. Your description sounds exactly like what happens when air is in the head. Make sure the heater control is set to hot too, that makes sure no air is trapped in the heater core.
I had my B20z overheat on Interstate drives at 80mph or more with the stock radiator.........put in the Del Sol unit and no more overheating. I have to drive 100mph or more steady before it will now, which I dont normally do.
BTW, I have a GSR tranny.
