what car would have driven and was it a championship winning car those years? if an f1 pilot can't get a WDC out of it...
You know what is ridiculous? We have been told we can only share the GOES R data from official social media accounts during the test phas and we have to post a disclaimer with it. I've seen 16 imagery on several non government media sources without a mention of a disclaimer.
I'm not sure if the link you posted is a fed, I'm betting not, is prob either a contractor or media. We have this new hotness and are hamstrung.
McHonda is apparently 10,500km behind Mercedes in testing mileage. To put that in perspective the Belgian Grand Prix race distance is 308km.
Actually Mercedes PUs did 12475 km in testing (3 teams). Merc did 5102.
That said McHonda is still *****. They did 1978 km and the longest stint was a whopping total of 11 laps. Latest rumor is the electrical issue is causing the PU to shake to death. I wonder if the electrical system shorting out somewhere is leading to detonation which is causing parts to break and helping inside parts transform to outside parts.
No...well if you mean as in their season will end with 0 WCC points. If you mean do they have any chance of winning anything of significance then I might be tempted to agree with you.
Comparison of number of laps in 2016 and 2017 (8 days of testing both years, if anyone suspects that's the reason):
Mercedes 1294-1096; 198 less Ferrari 891-955; 64 more Red Bull 817-684; 133 less Williams 856-799; 57 less Renault 776-597; 179 less Haas 474-715; 241 more Force India 779-785; 6 more Toro Rosso 1049-584; 465 less (so, you want Renault power then?) McLaren 710-425; 285 less Sauber 838-788; 50 less
I hope Renault at least can fix their PU issues before AUS. I think it will take a bit of time before Honda makes progress on theirs
However, because it stopped again, Honda decided to change the electrical parts of the power unit overnight after the end of the third day session. "We have already exchanged everything with actual products that have been used on the first day and the second day with no problems."
But on the final day, Alonso's machine shuts down while the car is running again. "Since I stopped right after hitting the curb (bottom) at the 9th corner, I think that the impact was involved,"
Hasegawa, general manager, said, "I can not say any more from myself" . Because the cause was not on the power unit but on the car body side.
Although it became clear that Honda did not cause the problem of a series of power supply systems that occurred over the two days this time, Hasegawa, the general manager, said, "Which was the cause (of the car body and PU)?" I am sorry that I lost running time as a team, but I want to positively think that I did not have to go out during the Grand Prix, "he said.
So it would seem the installation of the PU in the chassis could be causing the electrical issues (shorting the system out as 1 or moar harnesses rub) which is in turn causing the PU issues. If that's the case, it should be straight forward to fix it, no?
The current PU overall I think is very good and I am excited about it. But, lack of actual track testing it makes it difficult. Honda has not used test mules because mainly we don’t know when to stop. That is a fault. HRD is constantly trying to make improvements until the last moment and I struggle at times with this mentality. I was this way in the ‘80’s but I have changed. There comes a point where you need to concentrate on improving what you have built rather than constantly trying to build new versions. This between you and me is Honda’s biggest weakness at this point IMO. This IMO leads to lack of testing time for each upgrade. What is better, 5,000 hours of testing on 10 different versions or 10,000 hours of testing on 5 different versions? Arai-san especially thought the former. Then when I think okay this is good enough for now, some interpret that as quitting. So in this aspect, I get frustrated. My contract ends in 30 days and I will not renew. I am done with F1 as a consultant/engineer. It’s not fun anymore.
So I hope this PU can be exploited to its full potential. The power is there, the efficiency is there and as usual, reliability is the big question mark because mainly of what I have mentioned before. This of course has caused friction between us and McLaren and it is a very, very difficult partnership. I don’t know what the future lies but I know we have put tremendous effort into this PU. Almost everything is new. This is what IMO we should have built for 2015. Things will break. The latest failure was a valve-train issue stemming from an electrical problem. This is a problem that is being addressed currently and I think should be resolved before Melbourne.
^Interesting insight from behind the scenes. That runs pretty in tune with what I've seen out of Honda in other programs though (first year is a disaster and they refine from there).
did you see someone contacted Honda HR to try to dox him?
Not surprised. The internet has more than a few miserable people that want to drag others down to their level.
It's really unfortunate because you have to leave such small breadcrumbs out there when talking in public. I remember going back and editing a post I made about TRD a couple years ago because it would have been pretty easy to figure out who I was based on the level of detail provided initially and they were a customer program.
