Re: The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
@Turky
Over the holiday break, I was looking into swapping an LSx (sorta, more on that in a second) into my Dad's 68 Chevelle Nomad (currently a GN-T V6).
In the GMC/Chevy 2500 HD trucks, they have a 6.0L Fe block (designated LQ4. depending on year, AL or Fe heads) making around 285HP. Thing is, the 6.0L has 4" bores, sooooooo the GM LS2/L98 heads bolt on.
So while not technically an LSx, you can buy a cheap AF block, put ~$1500 into GM factory heads, and make somewhere in the 500+ HP on a stock truck block (includes intake from the LS F-bodies/Corvette's and decent aftermarket headers). That's insane value for money in my book. There's lots of literature out there supporting this very setup, and they do VERY well. So if heavy car, I would totes do that swap.
But alas, we stuck with GN-T and should have it running with new EFI system by the spring.

The amount of poors doing these swaps is high, because you get lots o power for little monies. I get it. But blanket statements on large groups of people don't make for very sound or fair arguments.
Oh, so you support LS-FD's then?

Wood very much like to see pics. Those turbo 6 Buick motors were and still are very bad motors. The T-Type and GNX were no joke and with a little bit of work, and I do mean very little work, can blow doors off lots of ****. As much as V8 goodness would be cool I approve of the turbo 6. Is so cool and still has GM heart.
In a nutshell, its a rebuilt 85 GN motor/trans (that means non-intercooled ). The swap was performed and fits nicely, but trying to run that old OEM EFI **** has been a PITA. The old man cutting corners because the budget was destroyed long ago (rotisserie frame-off restomod). I've assumed the PM duties, and have elected to update the problematic ECU which also means a new wasted-spark coil system and new high impedance injectors. Since it's a Florida car (high ambient temps), I've also elected to have a meth injection kit installed and controlled by the ECU (boost/load dependent etc), so a chemically intercooled car instead. Turbo is mostly stock, but bigger comp/turbine wheels and ported compressor housing. It's a common mod apparently in that crowd. Car should make decent power on pump and do good burnouts. That's really all my dad wants. That and funny boost noises and not terribly loud (a nod to bloo).

Re: The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
Being poor & having a stylish, quick car are not mutually exclusive.
I've seen one LSx swapped car that didn't look butt, as seen below:
Grand Mighty
But he's also completely insane & **** about every last detail (thus why his blog is great)
LS swapped cars too often seem to be owned by people who only think about a mod list & not how things work together. For ease of making the comparison, if they see a car in a magazine featured with nicely fitted Volk wheels, coilovers, engine swap and Recaro seats, they'll go, OKAY, 17x7 Volk GT7, Megan Racing coilovers, LS and Sparco seats will be perfect. Because no vision, just an attempt to fill an excel spreadsheet. /rambling

Once its finished and doing burnouts (one of my requirements demonstration and verification methods), I'll get some pics up.

Yeah if you are gonna take the motor out new brain is the way to go. Mid 80s electronics is lacking, my 86 Mustang is first year of Mustang EFI and is laughable. Putting upgraded GN motor in Nomad and using original ECU is like trying to run aluminum falcon on potato battery.

Get him an e-cutout. I absolutely love mines. Is so much fun to troll with lol

Car has full 3" exhaust (including DP). Could use another muffler perhaps or something else. Kinda drones. But it makes good noises when not running like ****. (always ran like **** doe)

Wut muffler? Sometimes different muffler can help with that. If you go with e-cutouts you could put really restrictive mufflers on it and still be good. Lose drone but not powah

Not sure what's on there. Could be without a muffler completely for all I know. Car is so damn long that there's probably 15' of exhaust piping under there. Priority one is to get the car running reliably at the moment. Needs a few things to get ready to be a good driver.

Just speaks from a position of adolescence in my book.
I too, was once as narrow minded in my likes and dislikes. But taste evolves, but more importantly I've gained respect for what other people do. Doesn't mean I have to like it (hello Rita's SOHC-T drag car), but if you do your work and like the product of said work, I can and do respect that.
My dad has more work in that car (originally his mother's car to boot) than blue has time reading JDM magazines. I'm sure there are any ***** to give about blue saying it sounds like butt.
