Re: The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
Sources have revealed Honda has recently begun discussions with Mercedes about it potentially providing consultancy assistance to speed up work on Honda's F1 engine, which has suffered from poor reliability as well as being down on power.
Talk of Mercedes involvement comes against the backdrop of Honda ramping up its use of outside consultants in recent weeks.
Renowned engine firm Ilmor is understood to be involved.

I guess it's a good return favor for handing Merc a championship winning chassis for their 2009 engine.

PRO-TIP: If you take off-ramps and cloverleafs at 35MPH in a high-mileage CRV, eventually the left front driveshaft will start leaking profusely. Left front is a bummer since it's got a fixed shaft + half shaft with CV boots.

Easy fix doe.
The axles on my Mazda have a habit of welding themselves to the hubs so the hub and bearings usually have to be replaced if an axle goes. Let me tell you how I know...and **** wheel bearings. I've replaced enough of them to know I never want to again.

I'm not sure I buy this Merc helping Honda. Who wins? No one, well maybe F1 viewers. Merc has to give up some secrets (tho they won't give up the good ones), what few tricks Honda has that might actually be good will now be known by Merc. Not to mention if there is any roadcar technology transfer then that becomes compromised. Plus Honda looks even worse than if they had just bailed out of F1. I say either Honda needs to fix it without help from the other manufacturers of they can use the door.
Not to mention what are the other mid field teams gonna think about this, especially the Merc supplied teams. This is a can of worms FIA doesn't need.

Well, Fernando is doing the Indy 500 instead of Monaco so anything is possible like Mercedes helping Honda.
Also, how involved is Ilmor with the Mercedes power unit? Ilmor did help Honda when they went from CART to the IRL in 2003.

From today's Strategy Group meeting:
"It was also agreed upon that races will be resumed from a standing start after a red-flag period."
Not sure I like that idea. It's up to the World Motorsport Council to approve it or not.

As long as pictures of the current cars aren't posted, I'm cool with it.
Could be worse.

Number of NASCAR laps watched in 2017 - 0
Number of ***** given - 0
Not having to listen to DW - priceless
Standing starts after a red flag period sounds like a NASCAR idea. Soon we'll be having debris safety cars to tighten up the field. Instead of the F duct McHonda will debut the D flap which dumps debris on the track every 10 laps to keep them from getting lapped.

Fred "Why are all these peasants giving me these useless trinkets?"
Andretti "You don't keep them! You sign them and give them back. It's called an Au To Graph"
Fred "Really? Should I throw out all this **** I've collected already?"
Andretti "It's a sign of respect. Fans want the signature of the best, most talented drivers."
Fred "Is that why I haven't seen anyone give you any of this junk to sign?"
