Default New Rollbar and Harness bar mount question

This afternoon I finally got my car back from our good friends welding shop. I had a roll bar made and installed. It meets all specs (mounting, tube size, hoop/bracing dimensions) for 2008 SCCA GCR. I thought it would be interesting to add to the roll bar picture database on HT and also see what kind of comments I can get. I'm extremely happy with the work and final product.

It'll get pained after this weekend - simply no time to bother with it for now.

When i went to find mounting locations for the harness eyelet bolts on the floor of the teg....i ran into a problem. I noticed there is not a flat surface that goes to the underside of the car on the passenger's side of the driver's seat.... behind the seat.

does anyone have any pictures of where they mounter their belt around this location!!??

I'm going to find a safe way of doing it tomorrow after work but until then I would like to see what some others have done.

So anyway sick of typing - here's some pictures.

comment away please/thanks.

Which part of the harness are you trying to mount to the floor using eyebolts? I hope its not the shoulder belts.

I mounted my 5th and 6th point crotch harness to an eyebolt with a circular mounting plate provided with my crow harness. I followed crows directions on mounting location.

if its a 5 point, directly under chest line is fine. if its a 6 point, the belts ahve to be 8-12 in. away from each other, at a 20 degree angle going up. flatness won't matter as the bottom should have a circular backing plate. check under the car to make sure there are no brake lines or anything in the way. someone i know ran into that problem....

the shoulder belts are already attached correctly, and I have proper mounting points/plates/bolts for the center belt (yes it's a 5-point, not 6) and driver's side lap belt.

problem is i don't want to bolt to the exhaust tunnel, like i've seen so many people do. I want to bolt to the floor because it's my *** in the seat.

there are brake lines running directly under the spot i want to mount and next to that is a subframe reinforcement - looks to be a box shape similar to a "real" frame.

remove your seat and see if you can drill a hole somewhere under there.

ok update - it's finished. it came out perfect. 1/8" plates along with washers, zinc coated the steel. under the seat would be a really bad idea for lap belt mounting point - crotch strap mount is there tho.

pictures:

and the one that I couldnt determine where to put:

You might have wanted to notch that heatshield near the bolt. It won't be problematic or anything, but when the exhaust moves around it might rattle like a bitch.

my exhaust rattle so much im sure it'll dwarf any heat shield rattle :-P

if i'ts a problem ill throw the cutoff wheel on it and be done. it's really fit well tho.

but now my car's in the air with no rear suspension and im leaving tomorrow for the track. back to work

Technically it doesn't meet the GCR spec, close and would probably skate through tech.

Your main hoop has 5 bends, not 4. Unless you stepped up the next wall thickness it would be illegal, Technically. I have seen many cages pass with the 5th bend.

2008 GCR Rules

Main hoop: 4 bends max., totaling 180º ± 10º
Front hoop: 4 bends max. or
Front downtubes: 2 bends max.
Rear hoop supports: No bends.
If any of the above bend requirements cannot be met, all components
of the roll cage shall be fabricated from the tubing size(s) listed for the next heavier category of automobiles.

Its just something to keep in mind for the National races.
