My CR-X track car (non vtec) how to make it faster
Hi, I have a CRX with B20 non vtec just for track days, it has 205 whp, ITR 98 spec tranny, tires Advan A048 205-50-15, PIC coilovers, etc, the car runs very good but I need to make it faster at the track, I have to decide what of these three options to do:
- Mfactory gear ratios
- Wider rims-tires
- Light weight (remove door panels, floor insulation and window glasses)
This is a video of the last track day:

I think you are also leaving some time on the track by trying to "autocross" the corner exits so tightly.
And 205's are much too small for that much power.

wider wheels/tires and less weight. Gears will cost you a lot of money and not make the car much faster at the track in your video.

Judging from your video, you definitely need:
_ Wider wheels/tires.
_ Light weight to free up more HP.
_ I could be wrong but you could use a little more seating close-up to the steering wheel?

More tire and more seat time on track without idiots that think it's a race! It makes great video trying to pass people like that, but doesn't allow you to work on developing more speed in the car.
I'd also seriously suggest a cage at this point. The car is fast enough and your going fast enough that if something happens in that car on track, you are going to have have a much higher likely hood of being hurt without one!
Just my 2 cents.

If I ran like that with another car at a "track day" (besides an instructor sessions during the racing school) I would be sent home and invited not to return.
I couldn't get passed that to give you any driving feedback but for the car:
Wider tires, go to 225's
More power
Better suspension and a take time to set it up with camber, toe, shocks, pyrometer etc.
Add a cage
Oh yea and add a cage.
p.s. you should add a cage.

first of all thats some bad *** driving, second wow your car looks so out of place compared to the other cars...goes to show you dont need an expensive car to be fast around a course...kinda sad how hondas technology from the early 90's can still be competitive 20 years later...3rd, i would say u def need the widest tire you can fit on that car i mean you need to exaggerate it like 15x10 wheels if you can...that is by far the best mod i hav done to my 7th gen accord race car....have a look i have 17x9.5 + 15offset MB Battle wheels with 245/40/17 tires...i will attempt to fit 275/40/17 tires in the near future....heres a pic for reference i had to pull out the front and rear fenders becuz they stuk out ~2 inches....

Re: My CR-X track car (non vtec) how to make it faster
Thanks for your ideas, that day I was with a heavy understeer because I was trying to test new camber and tire pressure setup, my best time that day was 55.1 and my own record is 53.99
Those MB Battle wheels looks great, but I can´t find them on 15´´, do you know if they are avaible at that size? if not I´m thinkin getting 949 UL 15x8 and A048 on 225, what´s the best tire store to get them?
I tried to put a cage on it last year, but damn I´m on Chile, the "best" place to make it the guys just ruined the oem jdm paint at second day of working, so I never wanna take the car to another place, will try to see if I can import a cage from US
Here is the video with better setup and best time

If you don't mind me asking, how are you making 205 whp with non-vtec? Are you running crower 405s?

Lighter weight, wider wheels as others have said. Gears WILL work BUT..... you would have to change the ratios for that specific track to see a big improvement...

And yes I use 405s cams.
The advantage using ratios is that track is the only one we have near Santiago, so every track day happens only there, but I will try to get semi slicks on 225 and 8 wide wheels

Re: My CR-X track car (non vtec) how to make it faster
I used to work for that shop and tuned that car many times, and there was built my engine, from my 205 dyno I have changed to VictorX intake, big end header exhaust, e cutout, etc, so I think I could be near 220 whp at this time.
And yes I use 405s cams.

Re: My CR-X track car (non vtec) how to make it faster
The car is also street driven so the Hoosiers could be only used for the track, so I´m thinking getting NT01 225-45 for their price and durability and PF01 Enkei

I would cage it and than go after the other things. Any idea what the car weighs in its normal set-up?
After adding the cage (and obvious weight) you could than go back and remove that weight from other areas.
