mounting lap belts
i'm getting my roll abr soon (yey
) and i can finally mount my harness correctly. it will be eady to do now since the interior will be out and the drill will be out anyways. was wondering what hardware everyone uses to mount there lap belts, since it looks close on the outer sides of the car. i imagine the location depends on the seating location and what not.

the shop that built my roll bar welded tabs on to the bottom of the main hoop for the belts as well as sandwiched some steel plates with grade 8 bolts on the exhaust tunnel for my lap belt mounts on either side - the same was done for the crotch straps under the seat. It cost a little more in the end to have this done but its a safe, secure place for them to be mounted.

I know there are different schools of thought on lap belt attachments, but why not use the factory mount to your left, and the seat bracket (or floor tunnel) to your right? Belts (sub included) should use a large rounded backing plate if you go through the floor.
thats what i'm doing now. at least want to get the sub belt off the seat bracket and on to its own bolt just so its center. but i didn't know that mounting the laps to the seat bracket was ok.i'm using seat brackets on both sides because the '91 hatches had belts on the door.

You mentioned that you are getting your roll bar soon... You can use the wraparound option (like the way the shoulder harnesses will fit to the bar) on the driver-leftside-lapbelt. That is if it is long enough/you sit far enough back/etc. This will save having to bolt in an eyebolt on that side. Just wrap it aound the lower part of the main hoop.
On the driver-rightside-lap, you may want to check your exhaust tunnel for a threaded hole. On my 91 CRX, there was actually a mounting hole tapped for the same thread pitch that the standard eyebolt they sell for the harnesses uses. (even though the stock belts attached to the seat rails on that car) Must've been a hold over from the '88 or '89 seatbelt layout.

An eyebolt at each of the factory belt's two lower points (with "clip-on" hardware at the belt end) seems to work great in my car. Use the longer sized eyebolt for the outer points so that there's enough thread engaged into the tub of the car. For the inner points, I cut out an opening in the decorative trim covering the OE bolt so that the eye can protrude.
If not using the OE seats, then I'd also suggest trying to find a predrilled knockout in the exhaust tunnel (if it exists) and going through that, with some good reinforcement on the outside. If no knockout...time to pull out the drill for yet a couple more holes.
