Default Mirror setup

I got to test drive the ITS datsun the other day for the first time and I noticed something I REALLY dont like. I cant see directly behind me!!!

The current setup is a foot long convex mirror on the center of the top hoop and one crappy rear view on my drivers side door... which the window net tends to block.

Does anyone have any suggestions for mirror setups?

Ditto....on both accounts.

I'm currently using the end brackets to mount it, but I'm thinking that adding the back mounts that glue to the windshield might help.

But I love the wink mirror. I almost don't need the passenger side mirror because of it.

I also mounted a small, maybe 2" bubble mirror on my driver side mirror to help with the blind spot/area that the window net blocks. Definitely helps.

Wink =

Try fabricating a small alum bracket that attaches to the middle of the wink and to the rollcage header bar. That helps kill the vibration.

I'm installing a 5-panel in my SM and it reaches almost from one down-tube to the other. I'll be using the windshield mount and a couple of aluminum brackets from the halo bar to hold it in place.

We have a few winks hanging around... I guess Ill install it and see how it works.

Also does anyone prefer the fine mesh window nets to the conventional large webbed ones? It seems to me that the fine mesh will allow more vision to the left.

I very much prefer the fine mesh nets.

That reminds me, I need to order a new one!

Giles, where are you, and what did you do for mirrors in the ITC car? I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember that they (the whole lot of them) were very effective.

As I recall, there was a large, wide convex up top, and two circular convex mirrors per a-pillar, mounted inside the car to the cage. Between the five (!) of them, I could always spot when three wreck miatas were divebombing me during a test day...

Nah, there were only 3 mirrors.
One 4 panel wink up top and a circular convex on each A pillar cage downtube. The car had zero blindspots.

My only beef with the wide convex mirror is it seems to shrink the reflection a bit. I did have the Idea to put the additional mirrors on the A pillar bars, but I didnt know how effective they would be.

Okay so it only *seemed* like there were five mirrors.

That setup worked remarkably well. Important in an ITC car...there's generally someone breathing down your neck pretty well everywhere.

The fact that you drove the car all year and think that there were 5 mirrors in it is sort of telling.
I wish I'd known that sooner, I would have taken all the mirrors out of the car .
