Top mount set-ups on the street.
I'm getting ideas for my new project (street and track) and was thinking about a topmount set-up but i dont know much about them. I was wondering if anyone heres drives a topmount set-up on the street. Or if there is drawback to running one on the street compaired to a ramhorn like my old set-up. Meaning spool,or temp issues due to location or the fact you can have two wastegates. Also I'm still unsure if i want a ramhorn or topmount i had a ramhorn but i'de like to see pics of peoples topmount set-ups.

What's your setup? Topmounts shine when bolted to a high revving setup. They make lots of power up top but will slow your spool times down. You shouldnt see any temp differences vs a bottom mount and there really isnt any need for dual wastegates unless you are running a huge turbo. Thats just money that can be spent elsewhere. They do look sick and make working on the turbo a lot easier. IMO, unless you are running a setup that you plan on revving to 9k, I would go with an equal length bottom mount. Top mounts also cost a bit more but in the end, they are both great manifolds and will make great power on any setup. Really it depends on your setup and goals

I'm running a top mount and will attest to a little "laggier" than I'd like. Servicing the turbo is a lot better than a bottom mount setup IMO.

Re: Top mount set-ups on the street.
My old set-up reved to 9k could have reved up to 9500 but my power fell off turbo was on the smaller side. The motor was a fully built b16 built top to bottom and made 400+ on 20psi with a full-race mani and on pump. I plan on reving to atleast 9000 again my new set up will be pretty simular to my old. B16a sleeved. built bottom end and built and ported head with eather a t3/t61 or t3/t67...gt3076r or gt35r havent decided yet trying to go for high 400 to low 500 and still have a good powerband so i think i'm going with the 30R cus i know it's a fun street turbo and on 20psi agan it should be around there ?

The ONLY time i would ever use a topmount would be on a strictly track-only car. A topmount, however 'cool' they may be, isn't really a practical option since they increase lag and shift the powerband toward the upper RPMs...not exactly ideal for street driving. I've run a log, mini-ram, SLS prototype and a topmount...my best results were with the Miniram and my current manifold (which is similar to a ramhorn).
I would read the link TheShodan gave you and decide from there...

^^listen to these guys for sure! For a street car, you really dont need anything more than a ramhorn or similar. My next manifold is gonna be a mini-ram. Seems like everyone has great results with them and for around 500 bucks brand new, you just cant beat it IMO.
