Koni Yellows with SP3 designation?
Hi,
Ordered some Koni Yellows for my 88 CRX Si and was expecting some P/N 8041-1166 SP4 for the fronts and got the 8041-1166 SP3's instead. Does anyone know the difference. They look to be externally adjustable with 5 ring grooves for height adjustment.
Thanks

SP3's are the Neuspeed ones. They have a 20mm shorter rod and 5 grooves instead of 3 . . . .

Thanks for the link Nonsense,
I guess the 20mm shorter shaft will be a benefit on a lowered car.

No, it won't....
The ONLY difference on the Neuspeed shock is the 5 vs. 3 ring grooves, which is NOT of importance if you are using an adjustabe spring perch.... The piston rod is 20mm shorter then the OTS Koni yellow, which only makes a difference when the suspension is at full droop, which on a street car is very rare.
Don't waste your $ on the Neuspeed stuff. Don't let anyone tell you that the Neuspeed shock is "valved more agressively" then the OTS Koni Yellow, they are NOT.

Not sure if the Neuspeed stuff is more expensive or not. Only paid $107 per strut. I just assumed they would be the SP4's when I ordered the set.

Well the deal was too good to be true. The fronts were the 8041-1166SP3's but they sent me 8040-1078 SPORT for the rear. Looks like you need everything in writing before ordering stuff these days.

I think those are the only rear shocks that koni makes for the 88 model. Since that model doesn't share the rear shocks with any other US model (except maybe the ITR??) you only get the "reds"
Here's a link to them http://www.neuspeed.com/produc...=1467

Not correct on two points. There is an externally adjustable Sport for the back of the '88 and the Type R under the part number of 8041-1164 Sport. No problem putting the SP3s on the front and the Sport on the rear. Also the 8040-1078 Sport is a yellow Sport shcok although it is not externally adjjustable. There is also an non externally adjustable under p/n 8040-1078 (same numbers but no Sport). Presence of the word Sport or SP__ means yellow, lack of it means red.

thanks for clearing that up Lee. I've always been confused about what Koni has for the 88's and with the different models of shock if becomes confusing. I should have just posed "PM CRX Lee" LOL
