Koni 1153 or 1213 for EK?

Koni 1153 or 1213 for EK?
I posted in brakes&suspension with not much feedback.
Recently, I ordered the "Honda-Tech Special" from the Ground Control Store.
The invoice said Koni PN 1213 for the rear shocks. However, when installing them today I noticed the lower fork of the shock and the Lower control arm bushing did not align correctly. After some brief research, I found that GC had sent me the 1153 shocks for the rear. When 1213 are meant for the EK Civic. The shock forks I was sent are 10mm wider, as they are for the EG Civic which has a wider LCA.
I consulted with a customer service person at GC who said they use the 1153 for EKs, because it has "better valving." And that they will be sending me some spacers (which "should" have been included in my original order). Is it even safe to use these spacers? Doesn't it distribute the load on the LCA bushing incorrectly?
Which brings me to my question. Does anybody know if the valving is better? or even different? between the 1213 and the 1153?
Should I request that they exchange the shocks they sent for the correct EK Civic shocks? The ones that are conspicuously stated on the invoice, not to mention!

I would be shocked to find out the 8041-1213sport and 8041-1153sport shocks are actually different valving.
the 8041-1213sport shocks are the correct part # for the EK rear shocks.
Yes, you can run a spacer to make the 8041-1153sport shocks fit...and there really shouldn't be any detrimental performance change in doing this...I know some aftermarket coilover companies do the same thing so they only have to offer 1 part # for the EG/DC/EK by including spacers to fit the rears on the EK
I would ask for the 8041-1213sport rear shocks that are a direct bolt-on for your EK just like we would supply any customer that called us and ordered Koni Sport shocks for an EK...not sure why they would sell the other ones unless they are just trying to streamline the part #'s they have to keep in inventory like some of those coilover companies do which isn't necessarily a bad thing but not a reason to not be up front and just tell you that is what they are doing
Lee Grimes at Koni can confirm if the valving is actually different in any way...but I would find that far fetched.

I ordered the coilovers just before the holidays. I can't remember how many times I called them asking for a status report and was deflected with countless excuses about why my items hadn't been shipped. One of which being that they had a ton of orders, at the time, and ran out of Konis.
Great, learn how to run a business and forecast demand over the holiday season. Don't cause detriment to your customer by making them wait, and then sending "half" correct parts. Seems like they just wanted to satisfy my order. Even if it was with the wrong rear shocks.
Due to the long wait on delivery, I was even comped for a GC t-shirt (which was shown on an updated invoice) that didn't arrive with my coils.
All I can say is that these people are either deceitful or have no idea how to run a business. Yes, I would be fine with the 1153s. IF they had been straight forward about what was happening from the get go. And if they proven that Koni okays the use of them with spacers for applications on 96-00 Civics.
Should have just gotten AMRs
Anyways, thanks for your, very helpful, reply.

Did you really just type "should have gotten AMR's"? Lol! There've regularly been folks in this subforum who can't get a response out of them for an order 6+ months ago.
Next time, hit up James/Tom at IPG or Louis at LTB or Jeremy at FastTech... All great folks to work with and will deliver on their commitments.

I was in a similar boat when buying my Koni Race shocks. The 1213 shocks are out of stock and Koni directly told me they didn't know when they would be making them again. I just went with the 1153s and built up my own spacers from washers.
I would doubt there's any difference in the valving of the shocks though.

Hello,
I've a 2000 Civic Sedan and I've found a Koni 1153 from an Integra, I would like to use it on my car.
What is the size of the washer used ??
Thank you.

You would need 10mm thick in total (5mm per side of the bushing).
I've got EK Koni's on the back of my EG (previous owner got the wrong ones and shaved the bushing and spread out the fork instead). I'd be glad to trade someone for EG rears, lol.
