Might be some info here:

Yasu's Hype R:

1880 lbs. without driver

I believe E Prod weight is 2165 lbs without driver ... seems tough to get that light without fiberglass panels, etc.

Do theft recoveries count? I bet there are lots of real light ITRs if so.

I think **** got his to 2300 w/ driver, I think he could have gotten a little lighter still legally in H1 ..

I'm at 2350 with the prelude and driver.. I would think an ITR can get under 100lbs on a prelude..

I looked at his setup. Is that actually possible? That is the lowest ITR weight I have ever seen. How could it be that low with a cage? Aside from normal strip-out, lighweight seat (save 20 lbs maybe + 38 for passenger seat) all he has changed are doors, hatch and hood to CF. My CF hood only weighs 18 lbs while stock one weighs 35 lbs, so that only saves 17 lbs. Front bumper beam only weighs about 14 lbs. How can you get down to 1880????? I need to know.

polycarbinate windows - I'd guess the stock hatch with glass windows is ~70lb or more - fiberglass with poly could be in the 20-30lb zone - similar savings should be possible with the other windows being replaced...

his cage isn't exactly legal, under any sense of the term, at elast from my understanding of FIA rules.

there is a main hoop with nothing in it except a horizontal bar at the very bottom, to rear ward bars travelling to the shock tower area, and the frotn hooop is very minimualist too

They took all the tar off the ENTIRE car. look at the pics of the underbody. No tar at all.

I bet that alone isnt enough for 1880, but it helps alot.

Well a stock ITR weighs 2570 Lbs. Then you add some kind of a cage which is going to be in the range of 100 lbs minimum, as my Autopower roll bar alone weighs 58 lbs with hardware, and then add 5-point belts and hardware and that is another 10 lbs or so, which brings you to 2680 lbs. So to strip it down to 1880 lbs, you have to remove 800 lbs! If you go to 8 lb wheels, you can save 20 lbs overall, and tires won't be any lighter. Brake disks won't get lighter (likely heavier), and you can at maximum take off 5 lbs off each front caliper with aluminum ones, so 10 lbs total. Suspension weighs the same no matter what you do, except removing front sway bar, but you had better not add a bigger rear one. Aluminum bodied mono-shocks and short springs are only going to save you perhaps 30 lbs total, if that. Engine and transmission weigh the same. All you can take off are the bolt on stuff like cast iron exhaust, muffler and resonator, but the stuff you replace it with still weighs. Flywheel can save 10-15 lbs. Off comes the ABS, power steering pump and brackets and a few more lightweight anti-pollution bits. You can take off weight with CF parts, but it would be hard to reduce overall weight by more than 100 lbs, as hood only buys you a reduction of 17-20 lbs, and it is a big piece. Can you save more than 80 lbs with doors, front fenders and rear hatch? Seats take you sown by 76 lbs, but with brackets you will add back 15-20 lbs, so perhaps you can save 60 lbs. The interior might weigh 60 lbs with spare, jack and tools, rear seats, dash. Not sure what heater weighs with fan. And then there are lexan windows, but overall I am hard pressed to see how you get all those savings to add up to 800 lbs. I can see 400 lbs, which takes car down to 2280 range, and with a bit more creativity and lots of money you might get another 100 lbs so down to 2180 lbs, but 1880, which is 300 lbs less? I would have to see it to believe it, but I am willing to learn from anyone who knows how to get an ITR below 2000 lbs, let alone another 120 lbs below that. I weigh all the stuff that comes off and goes into my ITR, and saving weight is very difficult and costly. The front bumper beam only weighs 13.5 lbs as I recall. Adding HP is much easier. Has anyone here ever seen an ITR weighing less than 2000 lbs or know how to do it?

I no dis guy who took a few more lbs off by removing the frontmost motor and trans mounts - leaving 3 mounts in which he's using somebodies solid red urethane.

Scott, who's at 2500 with driver...I'll eventually get that down by around 100, but figure that'll be about it...

Usually you start the opposite the way. You take the car and strip everything off it to start with a shell.....then cut or unbolt or wrestle everything off that you will never need...then start the build up from there. There have been guys who cut any excess off of every bolt that they put into the car....it adds up .....1880lb sure is light though.....

I saved 8lbs a corner just by going to Al. callipers not counting removing the ABS sensors, dust shields, bolt trimming, etc. I believe you are under estimating in many areas what is possible.

To get there you do things like these hubs and knuckles, look closely it takes time, ingenuity, imagination and risk! Go over the entire car like this and it is possible. I don't own a ITR but my 93 GSR started off close to the same weight and is below 2000lbs now.

So light I find it hard to believe.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by RR98ITR &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Scott, who's at 2500 with driver...I'll eventually get that down by around 100, but figure that'll be about it...</TD></TR></TABLE>

Just as I thought. If driver weighs a "svelte" 150 lbs, then car weighs 2350, upon which another 100 lbs of stripping and likely much money brings it to 2250 lbs, as quoted by others as their lightest weight. That is what makes 1880 requiring you to take off another 400 lbs or so, difficult to comprehend. As for old G2 Integras, I have no knowledge, but I am certainly not under-estimating too much, as I have weighed many parts from the ITR. For example, the front brake pads weigh 2.0 lbs and the caliper assembly weighs 11.6 lbs, and shield weighs 0.5 lbs. ITR disk weighs 13.0 lbs while upgrade to a Legend disk weighs 14.7 lbs. If you can save 10 lbs per side including dust shield (which weighs very little), you will not have any calipers at all, as this would mean your new calipers weigh 2.0 lbs. An ITR front damper weighs 4.0 lbs, spring is 4.8 lbs. An Advance Design aluminum body front damper weighs 2.8 lbs and an Eibach 650 lb 7" spring weighs 3.3 lbs, so that saves a whopping 2.7 lbs per side or 5.4 lbs for the front axle or about 10-11 lbs for the whole car. An it costs $1820 to save those 10 lbs, or $180 a lb. A carbon hood saves a measured 17 lbs and costs a much more effective $450,or $26.5 a lb. A nice set of Volk wheels saves 20 lbs total an costs about $1400 or $70 a lb. While you may get a G2 Integra below 2000 lbs (about which I know nothing), we are talking about an ITR, about which I know a little more.

Seems like you kind of know "bolt on" or "bolt off's", yes a Wilwood Billet Dynalite weighs 2.5 lbs. Although to reach the weight you are dreaming about takes a bit more investment then simply purchasing the lightest ready made parts!

Well in my all motor drag car, integra type r that is being built and will be done before summer. I am trying to get it under two thousand pounds.. Which is possible, but is not an easy task.

I honestly don't think the car is *close* to 1880lbs. I woud venture to say it is at *least* 2100lbs.

Whether you strip a car down completely or not, you are still going to re-assemble it with "bolt-ons" aside from the cage which only adds weight. Let's keep the "skinnies" out as this is a discussion about a road racing ITR, not a drag racing ITR. And as far as bolt on calipers, the Spoon aluminum ones weigh 2.4 kg each or 5.3 lbs, which is not going to save you 10 lbs per side, and those will have a hard time under heavy circuit racing. How can the Wilwoods be 2 lbs for the front of an ITR unless those are little mini calipers not suitable for road racing. But the issue is not saving 10 bs per side, it is about getting an extra 400 lbs off an ITR that already has been stripped down. No need to know what a Del Sol or a G2 Integra weighs, just an ITR. Every car is different and comparing a Del Sol to an ITR is like apples and oranges. Until someone says differently, I am going to assume that you are hard pressed to get a road racing ITR down to 2250 lbs, with 2350 lbs more typical. And 2150 bs is going to be very tough. Acid dipping, interesting thought!

By the way, the WC Touring car limit weight for an ITR is 2400 lbs with driver, or about 2250 without, assuming Kleinubing was driving, and it is now completely out-gunned by the bigger 2.4 litre displacement motor cars. And they used to be filled with lead to slow them down!!!

I beg to differ - i run wilwood billet dynalite (4 piston, 2.5 lb) calipers on the front of my "fat" subaru (2500-2600 lb w/o driver) and the dynalite single (2 piston, 1.4 lb) on the rear, and with proper pads they are PLENTY of brake for the car (11.5" rotors all the way around, fit some 15" wheels) no heat issues at all (except that i have discolored the anodization) - I don't race the car, but do track it hard - outbrake everything on the track, from anything stock to Porsche turbos and IT cars. - 8 lb of caliper is PLENTY for a car the size of an ITR.
