How do you set-up a accusump.
How much air?
I'm at 60+psi a full throttle....

The bottle new empty should be filled with 13lbs (I think) from the air nipple and the flow valve open. That puts minimum air in the chamber so the floating piston can extend to the end.

this might also be helpful

Interesting bit of info: A Beechcraft B76 has an accusump on each engine. The canister is the same size, same material, as are the hoses.

However, each canister costs $1600

I'm pretty sure Paul's first accusump setup ended up costing him that much in the long run

We have used an Accusumps for some time now and have gone through all the mistakes of fitting them that you can make... I think you'll find this is the way that works...
When you install the Accusump, Use about a 3/8" aluminum or wooden rod. Push the piston from the Oil outlet end down to about 1" from the Air valve end of the Accusump. (The Piston is about 1/2" thick.) Pre fill the accusump and shut off the valve while you instal the canister, and fit all the hoses. Pressurize the canister with Air, up to about 50psi then bleed the cylinder down until the gauge registers about 7psi.

Make sure you fit a non return valve to the Oil line. The plumbing should go like this....
From the engine Oil gallery outlet to the Oil filter, then to the Oil Cooler, from the Oil Cooler through the non return valve, to a Tee to the Accusump and the Engine Oil gallery inlet.
The reason for the non return valve is that when the engine drops oil pressure, the whole system loses pressure... So when the pressurized oil in the Accusump is released, it goes straight to the engine oil gallery instead of the pressure being dispersed back through your oil cooler. The oil in the Accusump feeds direct to the Oil Gallery.
When everything is fitted and leak proof... Crack open the Accusump Valve, this will purge air from the oil gallery and Pre Oil the engine before it is started. Start and Run the engine for a couple of minutes until the Oil Pressure in the Accusump comes up as High as your Oil pump will allow? 60-80 psi Then shut off the Accusump... Then turn off the Engine. Then check your engine oil level, Top off to your regular full mark, We run about 1/4" over full.

You are all set to go.
The Accusump will hold whatever pressure your engine has at the time it was shut off. During operation of the engine, the Accusump will automatically supply oil to the engine should the oil pump lose suction due to oil surges. Should there be a failure in the oiling system, the Accusump will supply from 15 to 60 seconds of oil ( Depending on the engine size) to protect the engine.
Remember the Routine: Always!!! ...Open Accusump valve Berfore Starting engine... Shut Accusump valve Before Switching engine off.

I hope this helps,

Kiwi
