Default hubcentric ring question

A buddy of mine purchases a set of Rota slipstream wheels for his Civic Ex 1996 year model. The seller only had two hubcentric rings in stock. he can get more but it won't be for a few days. no biggie. he was telling me that the Rota wheels only need the rings on the front wheels because the front wheels are the ones that do the turning and that if the rears are properly torqued they would be fine w/out rings. anyone care to shed some light on this? thanks in advance.
