Getting started: Autocross
you just show up and pay your money, show your dfriver's license, and have a good safe and sound car (lugs tight, battery is held down, brake has good feel, gas pedal returns, and all loose items removed).
You'll sign up for the novice group and depending on what mods you have you will be in Novice (Stock, street prepared, prepared, mod, sts, stx, or street mod). Also ask for an instructor to help you out.

Yeah, just show up. It might be a good idea to get into the group that works first. that way you can see other people run, and get an idea of how the whole event works. And walk the course.... don't talk, just walk and look, and look at things backwards as well.
But don't worry, at least at the autocrosses I go to, there is often 10-20% first timers (I think there was one event with about 40%+ novices!
You probably won't be the only one feeling your way through.
