W00h00!
I cannot wait to see the MP4-20 with Kimi and JPM get busy at the Australian GP in a little less than a month or so! These two can and will take the fight to Ferrari and Schumacher . IMO, this is undoubtebly the best team driver pairing in F1 for 2005 because of their experience!
I think it will be a very interesting battle between these two teams!

Renault looks good, but how much will losing Gasgoyne hurt them? Their downfall has been a lack of power, but at the same time, they also have the lightest engine, so it balances out a bit. If they found a formula to get more power without adding weight, look out. I don't think they have it all together yet, but I'm excited to see Fisi in a competitive car though. I'll say third here.
McLaren just looks scary fast, with talent behind the wheel that brings back memories of the Senna/Prost pairing of the early 90s. .</TD></TR></TABLE>
No possible combination out of the current field of drivers come remotly CLOSE to senna and prost in terms of pairings. But then again I'm slightly biased as I think Senna is the best driver in my eyes. (Too young to have witnessed Clark and Fangio perform their magic)
Schumacher might have more wins than both combined when he's done this season / early next. But when it comes to driver pairing that's on par or CLOSE to Senna and Prost, no one is gonna come close for a while certainly not Kimi and the Whinemeister at this stage.

I think that if Schumacher and Hakkinen were teammates back in the late 90's, that might have come close. But, being that there are only two world champions on the grid today, it's impossible to find a driver that could compete with schumacher both statistically and on the track.

Uh, look at his and Trulli's laptimes. There was no way he was going to pull out that much of a gap before he had to pit (i'm pretty sure he didn't have 35 laps till his next stop...maybe 10). Monaco was not a situation like in Hungary 1998.

Go Minardi!!!
Reminds me of my own racing program - underfunded, outperformed. If they get a point this year I'll be happy.

It's on-pace with the Ferraris at least I'm getting really excited...the last time a team were as dominant in testing as renault have been was McLaren in 1998...and we remember what happened then

From my experience working for Honda on Champ Car engines, the Japanese engineers always push the limits of the motor more in off season and break more engines then and then work on reliability in the race season. They are good at refining the motor over time. They will have the engine to beat, eventually!

Re: Formula One 2005 Preseason Predictions/Discussion Thread (rochesterricer)
I enjoyed it. Lots of passing in the middle of the pack(at least compared to last year).
Very surprised that the tires seemed to hold up as well as they did and the speed didn't seem to be dropping off towards the end of the race. Too bad Toyota didn't do better. I was pretty surprised that Trulli started on the front row, and was expecting to see some good driving from him. Unfortunately, I think he dropped out of points range by the end of the race.
Overall - good race.

Re: Formula One 2005 Preseason Predictions/Discussion Thread (BauleyCivic)
Highlights of the race - in upgrade/downgrade sequence a la VH1's Best Week Ever.
Villeneuve's start
Red Bull team
Renault R25 going 1st and 3rd
Schuie closing the door on Heidfeld
McLaren vs. Expectations
Barrichello's run to 2nd
Sauber vs. BAR for new "best of the rest" challenge
Trulli's driving
DC's return
Webber vs. Expectations
Sato vs. Expectations
- At least he didn't blow up!
Just my observations... and opinions
Good showings by Renault and Red Bull.
Jordan really stunk it up, and the Sauber's look to still be "the best of the rest" and I think BAR isn't going to be very good this year, maybe 5th or 6th.
Season predictions:
Teams
1. Renault
2. Scuderia Ferrari
3. McLaren-Mercedes
4. Red Bull Cosworth
5. Williams-BMW
6. Sauber-Petronas
7. BAR Honda
8. Toyota
9. Jordan-Toyota
10. Minardi
Drivers (Only top 5, all 20+ would take too long.):
1. Alonso
2. Schuie
3. DC
4. Fisi
5. JPM/Kimi
Yes, Alonso is wishful thinking, but with the performance of the Renault, I think that in the coming years he will be the one to beat. Sad to say it, but Schuie will continue to yeild big results for Ferrari.
