Default datalogger

anyone in this forum use any type of datalogger @ the track? I previously had a Valentine Research g.Analyst. Althought it debuted in mid 1980's, it was still very informative and useful. the best thing about it was you can review the graphs instantly.

stack/motec has fancy gauge/datalogger combo's but are way expensive. g-Cube which is model after the g.Analyst is not bad. any other experiences?

I run a Stack D/A system in my CRX.

I used a Geez-Cube last year during a test my company did for Pontiac. I was impressed with it! With some adjustments we were able to get consistant data that matched the more expensive systems we used for the test. I felt it was a bit limited for road racing applications but for autocross it would be a very useful tool.

I bought my Stack used for around $2K.

There are many cheaper options, it just depends on what features you want. Data logging can be as simple and cheap as a Hot Lap timer. Having that instant feedback is a great tool and really helps lower lap times.

As far as logging other data, http://www.advantagemotorsports.com has D/A systems starting for under $500. There are other cheaper systems like myCron and Iceman that seem very reasonably priced. I don't have experience with any of them though.

would you guys consider spending $750 on a datalogger? it has 2 axis accelerometer, GPS (track mapping!), rpm, wheel speed, and 3 user input, and has 100 Hz resolution? the best part about this unit is the powerful analyzer software.

are there any $1000 or less datalogger out there worth looking at? usually a logger with track mapping feature seems to cost atleast $1500 or more.

750 doesnt sound too unreasonably expensive, especially with 3 other available inputs for throttle and braking and steering. That can be done cheaper with a potentiometer linked to the physical inputs. I'm putting together my own system for this same thing, gonna be under $100 not including the palm pilot... thats all ill say for now. havent been working on it since im too busy fixing the car

Frank,

Tell me what features you really want and a strike price. Be specific if you can. When you say 3 user inputs, are they 0-5 volt, 0-12 volt, or frequency inputs modulating a 5 volt rail? Insight on the resolution also. What sampling frequency is optimum for your usage. Sales volume per year is also a key factor.

I can add it to my "to develop"list.

Regards,
BigMoose

Hi Dave, good to hear from you. This system is already available. I'm playiing with it right now. Just seeing of others are interested. I hope to get on track soon to fully evaluate it.

So how long is your developer list?
