Buying body in white?
My buddy is into Miatas. He tells me, through some of the racing places, he can pick up a body in white(AKA unibody) and a motor for relatively cheap.
I understand that there might be a market for this, 'cause of Spec Miata racings and such.
Is there a deal like this for any of the Hondas? Can I do this through a dealer?
I know I can buy indiviual body parts.

FWIW, the cars that were delivered as such for factory-backed/associated racing teams had to be either given back to honda or destroyed once they were done racing them, and no parts could be sold off of them.

You haven't addressed his actual question of ... buying a body in white.
Someone had definately posted in the past that HONDA of Japan sells stripped cars "in white", with steelie wheels and no interior other than a cheap driver's seat.
Address this issue please, and not what's done with "manufacturer's" cars.

Thats why my post was prefaced with "FWIW"
AFAIK, the only ones who got such cars here in the US were the factory? (HART) racing teams.

In the case of the Miatas, my buddy says that it comes with nothing. The motor comes in a separate box, and the "body in white" comes as just that, just the body. Even the hood is not included.
I work at an automotive company. And the term "body in white" is a term we use to describe the test pieces we crash, burn, whatever. I just used that term 'cause I didn't know how to describe it better.

Not entirely - I can tell you numerous places to get a 2002/03 Mustang body in white. They make great American Iron cars. They come with hood, doors and trunk. Bumper covers are not included though the supports for them are.

I *think* they sell them for between $1000 and $1400. They also sell everything else to make them complete cars. I was mistaken - they DON'T come with hoods.
Here is a link to a guy who built an American Iron car out of one:

I know that you can get them from BMW as well, you just have to have the right part number. One of our R&D guys was at TC Kline's shop as a brand new BMW Z4 shell showed up. It was a bare shell but that is what their winning Grand Am cars were built from.
I have talked to the HART guys on the day their Grand Am racing RSX cars were built on the assembly line as bodies in white specials with exactly what they wanted and didn't want. I don't think that is something we commones could do but having the right connections and the funds available might make it happen.
