Been Thinking...
buy Bookler's shell and drop a $500 motor/tranny in it
Who's Bookler and what shell does he have? I haven't been able to find any shells that weren't torn up to hell and back.
Why in the hell do all you guys think you have to H1 a hatch???
Especially when money is an issue.
Buy a damned DX 5 speed, throw a decent suspension on it, bolt in a cage, give the motor a little TLC, do a bunch of HPDE, and go kick Floyd's *** in H5.
Hell... buy Bookler's shell and drop a $500 motor/tranny in it... DONE!!!
Believe me, H1 is going to eventually attract some fast guys with fat wallets. The rules are pretty lenient. You budget limited guys will be crying all over each others shoulders.
So, you can spend your budget to get your *** kicked in H1 or spend the same money (or less) to be competitive in H5... DUH!!!
If you're budget limited in a big way, look at H5. It'll be cheaper by ALOT and you'll end up being a better driver for having to learn how to carry momentum.
geez...

Word!!!! please re-read Scotts Post.
Then read it again!!!!!!!!!!!
Scott,
Let em' learn the hard way.
A full season of H5 will cost about $5-7 grand. I'm planning on more than doubling that number for 2003. Not counting the car!
ALWAYS remember! The cheap part of racing is the race car!
There really needs to be a handbook for new racers on the real costs of road racing.

Reason I'm going H1:
-Dreamt of an EG with swap for years.
-Have great parents, money won't be that big an issue (no they wont give me money, but they won't force me to find my own place upon graduation). I've also been working office jobs since I was 14, I have a nice ittle stash
-Want my 1st car to be something I can be proud of.
-Want to shut up my musclehead close-minded honda=rice friends that think anything with less than 4L of displacement must be slow.
-Wanna break all Yack's records
I know budget-wise it isn't the smartest thing, however I'm a firm believer that a life lived chasing your dreams is better than one lived settling for whatever comes easier.
edit: oh yeah, I always like a good project. I don't know all that much about engines, it'll be a good learning experience.
edit2: CRX is too small for me, can't fit my mountain bike in it nicely... same with baggage.

Jeez, I wish you lived closer. I've got a '92 Si that I'm considering selling that *might* be a good platform for someone that desires to build instead of buying an already prepared car. I just put a new double-core radiator in it yesterday, and its already got some ES bushings, H&R springs and Illumina shocks. P/S has been looped through, and its got GS-R front brakes and Axxis Ultimate pads. Its even already got 15x7" wheels on it (but they're a bit heavy).
Hmmm...sounds like I need to put this in "Classifieds", but it'd tickle me to know that someone would build it for a HC car.
Damn sticky keyboard
