rust oxidizer ?
I am looking for the chemical i believe it comes in an aerosol can or some kind of paint on application that you can apply to surface rust to oxidize it and turn it into something you can put bondo or fiberglass over it and paint on. if anyone knows what it is and where you can get it please let me know. thanks.
I dont suggest doing bodywork over rust ever. I dont care what the product claims. The only way for it to go away is to grind to bare metal then use some self etching primer.
I don't trust them either...but I know that my local PepBoys sells a "Rust Dissolver" spray can, maybe made by Permatex. There is also Naval Jelly (I think?!) that supposedly dissolves rust. I tried the spray stuff ones and it seemed to have an effect, but it certainly does not make it go away. I'd say your best bet is to get it to bare metal as suggested by others. It's just not worth the work of having to do it twice if the rust comes through your brand new paint.

Yeah POR-15 is alright, but it's something I'd use on an underbody or frame. I wouldn't want to do BC/CC or filler over it. I have a friend that swears by the stuff for the frame of his truck.
i think he just wanted some product info for his rust
also, maybe he didnt realize so good lookin' out...but you came off as a complete dick
He said por15 works like a charm so I told him to use it. Now how bout you come and blow me
LOL well i can appreciate the EFFORT you try and put into giving me advice. but you need to gain some experience before you talk to me about por-15. have you even used it? No. so STFU ignorance takes your argument nowhere.
If you had any kind of knowledge or experience at all you would never have mentioned putting body filler or paint for that matter over a rust stabilization product. So hows that for a bit more effort. Damn lil bitches
For the record rust is already oxidized down pretty low. What you want to do is reduce it. Reduction comes by putting in either energy (charged bath of some sort) or an acid or both. If por15 doesn't contain a strong acid I doubt it's the **** to use. Just get some phosphoric, clean the flakes off, spray some on, let it dry overnite, and everything should be clean and gray.
That is, if anyone still cares about taking care of ****...
