Replacing Quarter Window
Just got myself a replacement quarter window at a junkyard, took a while to remove with that crazy hard sealant it had. But who cares I got a good deal for 20 bucks. I got the old outer molding, lightly sanded it and painted it so it looks new. As far as the sealant that holds the window in place, my question is can I just use any sealant to put in the new one on my 99 hx coupe or do I need a special sealant from Honda? Appreciate the help.
hey man i just replaced mine ....u dont have to use anything from honda M3 makes a good adhesive ..if u call a window replacement shop they will tell u what they use or for about $40 they will put it in for u
What adhesive by 3M and more or less how much would I need to put on. I know there's a certain thickness. Any chance there's a How-To Guide, I searched on the interwebs couldn't find anything.
Don't remove any of the old sealant. If you did already thats ok.
Most shops will tell you not to.
Call your local glass shop and see if they will sell you a tube and some activator.
Its about 20 bux at the most.
Mask off the frame with tape and paper. You dont want any of the activator on the paint.
Apply the activator liberally to both the window and frame area.
Get a caulking gun and put a uniform bead on the frame area, set it in place and make sure its straight. Press on it so it seats. Run some water on the edges to make sure its seated and not leaking.
Tape the edges of the window to keep it in place and allow to dry about 24 hours.
You can drive the car its not gonna pop out. Curing time is 24 hours though.

it melts a bit the old so the new can adhere to it easier.
When you build race cars your always pulling windows for some reason.
It's a piece of cake... alot easier than most think it is.
