Polishing Rust Question

Default Polishing Rust Question

Decided to completely sand down my hood and polish it. Sanded it in p400,p600,p800,1000,2000 and got a nice shine from it, then out the Mothers aluminum polish. It looked nice untill it rained, it started getting these brown markers mixed with some neochrome. Read Polish was supposed to prevent that? Only option to clear coat?

Polish is supposed to be water tight? Maybe wax....

Clearcoat is not meant to stick to bare metal. You will have adhesion problems.

It worked on my bike frame just fine but once it got scratched it was rust city. Driving around with an unfinished hood is just a whole different and stupid thing though.

My Driver rear tire is Scraping against the inner wheel well because its tilted to the right, so untill i figure out why, havent been driving it lol

I know this to be true as well but have seen quite a few rat rod's with what appeared to be clear coated bare metal. Not sure what it is really.

They might have used a MCU, which will adhere for a while. (Like a clearcoat POR15). They'll all fail in the end though, plus they change the luster of the material.

That must be what it was, you're right the parts I saw had an erie blingish-shine to them.

polishing for days wouldn't you get mad glare off the windshield though??

No When i had it polished there was no glare what so ever, common misconception
