paint matching
i just had my fenders painted a couple of day ago. the guy who painted it matched the paint off one of my mirrors. after i put the fenders on the car you can tell he did a horrible job of matching it, the fenders are much lighter. any suggestions?
only solution is to get it re-done. and hopefully you went to a legit shop that strives for customer satisfaction. where they will redo it for free untill they get it right.
Unfortunately I took it to some guy with over 20years experience. Thought I might save a few bucks now I'm upset that he did such a bad job. When I go back for wet sanding we're going have a talk.
can you post pics?... did the painter paint only the fenders alone? or did he paint the fenders and blend into the door? because honestly, colormatching is IMPOSSIBLE to get right. anyone that tells you its possible, obviously doesnt know anything. it works in theory. but in reality. it will never be exactly the same. the closest way to "matching" your paint, is finding the closest match possible. and then painting that color and then blending the panel into the rest of the car, to hide that "mis-match"
you are SUPPOSED to blend panels into other panels to hide the mis match. (WITH a color that is blendable)
at the same time, if the mis-match is night and day, then you probably took it to a lazy 20-year painter. and even if he blended it, it would be off.

Did he repaint the mirrors as well? I can easily tell that they don't match the car either but looks to match the fenders just fine. Why didn't he just go with the paint code on the car itself? Has the car been repainted before, or is it the original color?
the car hasn't been repainted and he did not paint the mirrors. he painted my ctr mirrors, which he still has because he missed a spot. i gave him the paint code. i wonder if he even used it.
he could've used the paint code. and the color could still be off...
like i said. color "matching" is impossible. painters can only blend the colors to look like it matches. a process that technically fools the eyes into thinking its the exactly the.

if you saw it in person you could tell better. the only thing it matches is the other fender.
anyways, hopefully he calls soon so i can get this fixed.
thanks for the input.

if he did use the paint code, then maybe whomever mixed the paint forgot to add a toner in with it. I've had this happen when I had paint mixed up, but hopefully he does right and fixes the problem..
if that is electron blue pearl (b95-p) there are two different ones. 99 and 00 have two different mix formulas( at least in deltron) and then both of them have variations.
also he shouldnt have matched color to a plastic part. most plastic parts are painted elsewhere from the rest of the car. thats why most bumpers arent exact matches. and he deff shouldve blended the door and possibly the hood and bumper if need be.

JSPEC is right, also...any decent painter knows...if your gonna pull the chips for a color, to match the varients for the color...you match them to the closest panel to the one being painted. In this case, the doors. Why would anyone try to match the fender color to the mirror? Also, Its ALWAYS best to blend the color, as previously stated, its impossible to panel paint and expect a perfect match. Did he atleast suggest you blend?
he wants me to take the car to the paint store sometime this week. lets hope he gets it right this time.
no, he didn't. i'll bring it up and see what he says.
