Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
I am going to chronicle my paint project from first to start. Bought the car about a year ago and she was a 10 footer. Lots of deep scratches, a few dings, and a tad bit of surface rust.
Currently she is Electron Blue Pearl, I am going to paint her Viper Blue so i dont have to repaint the door jams and engine bay.
Going to be painting the wheel Black Firemist.
I ordered all my paint from Tcp Global for 350 shipped.
Here is a few pics of my first hour...to humid today to do much more.

are you taking it down to bare metal?? hard to tell in the pic. you really only need to scuff the paint unless the paint job is crap that you are going over

im not taking it down to bare metal though.
I used an orbital sander with 220 grit, then i plan on using a sanding block with 320 grit to finish it off before i spray the primer.

Not a whole lot. The viper blue is a bit deeper blue, same color as the dodge viper, hence the name.
The electron blue pearl is a bit on the purple side. Im sticking with a similar color so i dont have to redo the door jams and engine bay.
Not a fan of the purple hue in my current paint...

got a little bit more sanding done this morning before work. Sanding a car in a apartment complex is apparently frowned upon, who knew?

Tell me how the spray gun will work out for you. I will be repainting my engine bay and then possibly the whole car. So I will need to pick up a spray gun soon.
Keep us posted, looking forward to seeing this car being fresh.

Re: Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
The only thing i dont like about the set so far is the adjustable pressure regulator. The nut the hooks it onto the gun seems a little loose for my liking.
Other than that, its a good set for the money as long as it sprays ok. $80 for three guns, primer gun, basecoat/clear gun, touch up gun, and cleaning kit.
Im gonna spray some old paint next week to get a feel for the settings n stuff.

make sure before you spray on the clear after the single stage has cured, that you wetsand with a 1500-2000 grit paper or else the clear wont adhere to the paint you have layed on already, if you wanted to go that route, why not base/clear?

Ostrictch, do you have any spray gun painting experience?

Re: Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
they are really helpful.
I just sent my single stage back to them to switch for a better bc/cc system. They waived the restocking fee for me!
Single stage would have been a bitch to try and clearcoat and since its a metallic you could ruin it trying to sand it.

Re: Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
So no, not much.
Im using my father in laws garage and plastic sheeting the entire thing, Were starting to clean it out tomorrow to get all the dust out and rigging a filtration system.
Im planning on doing a trial run with the primer on the front lip and sideskirts to make sure all the settings are down.
The spray gun kit came with an adjustable pressure regulator, so hopefully that will help me dial in everything accurately. The TCP global paint came with tech sheets that list all the settings for each type of paint/primer.

Looking forward to seeing the final result. I painted my car back in 04' and the paint is fading on me due to the Florida sun :/. I did a house of kolor pearl blue. Looked killer for sure. The viper blue is similar so it should look nice!

Re: Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
Finish sanding the hood 220 grit today.
Im off work tomorrow, so hopefully i can get the whole car done in the 220.
Next week i will hopefully get to wetsand the car down with 320.
The 3M sanding block i got from TCP Global is killer. Keeps a nice flat sanded surface to avoid high and low spots.
I will update with some pics tomorrow...also ordered some more clearcoat. Hoping to do at least 6 or 7 cuts so when i cut and buff, i wont burn through the clear
I totally tried to use paint stripper on the door handles, FAIL. made the paint all bubbly and hard to sand off. Should have used my dremel for the nooks and crannies.

Re: Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
My bumper has a 6 inch hairline crack in it.
Im using this Upol stronghold plastic filler, gonna open it up a little bit with the dremel and then start patching from the back of the bumper

Re: Ostrich2.0 Paint Project - First Time!!!
finished sanding the passenger side of the car.
All i have left now is the front bumper and rear trunklid, wing, rear bumper.
I am going to remove the mirrors as well and give them a good once.
Picking up some JB Weld as well, Im going to adhere some pennies in the holes on the trunk lid and hood where the emblems were. Fill them up with bondo and sand. Hopefully it will look a bit sleeker without the holes, plus it wont leak in my trunk anymore! YAY!
