Default Learning how to paint. help.

So I aquired a porter cable air compressor and I want to learn how to paint with a painters air gun. the specs on this is scfm@40psig is *3.7 and 90psig is *2.6. I really don't have a clue as to what this means. I know that some of you will need it help me choose the appropriate tools to get the job done. I know I will need a regulater/filter/oiler. Other than that I don't have a clue. I want to do smaller items like side skirts and lips. Is this sufficient for a bumper? someone please school me....

I don't think that is big enough to support a gun. I think my Sata Minijet needs more than that.

To run a gun right you will need continuous air somewhere areound 10 scfm at 90 psi. 60 gallon tank, and it should be a 2 stage comp to keep the temperature and moisture down.

I don't know guys, he did say he only wants to paint small stuff like lips and sideskirts. I would say pick up a decent in line dessicant filter that will remove water and oil from the lines before it reaches your gun. Also pick up an air regulator and a cheap gun. Run the compressor and place the regulator right before the gun and monitor the regulator and make sure you get consistant pressure to the gun, probably around 20 psi depending on the gun. If everything seems ok, you didn't waste any money on the gun since you can pick up a nicer gun and use the cheap one as a primer gun. If the compressor isn't sufficient, and you don't want to spend any more money on a new one, you didn't waste too much money because it was a cheap gun.

If it can hold a 30 psi pressure at the gun for at least 15 minutes that should be more than enough to spray some lips and bumpers and side skirts. You can let the compressor keep running and refill the tank during flash times in between coats. I definitely wouldn't be expecting to do any serious painting, but you might get away with doing some small stuff.

I would say it would keep up with an LPH 50 or other small touch up gun but not a full size gun...

LPH 50's are made by IWATA, and they are a smaller touch up gun.
