Default Integra trunk paint

I'm soon to be painting my integra trunk like the title says. Its a 94. I'm just looking for some tips. Right now im finishing up sanding everything with 400 grit sandpaper. And finishing removing everything like wiring, bolts, etc... This will be the first time ever painting (other than spray paint. One question I have as well is do I have to prime after i finish sanding? or can i just go straight to color and then clear? Its getting redone the same color, and if i do have to prime it I have to sand with 400 again right? Thanks in advance

if i were you id go with single stage mixed to your stock color, and if its stock paint then no primer is needed, just sand with 400 then 600 spray wet sand and buff.

alright, so 400, then 600, then color, then clear, wet sand, then buff? The paint im using is left over milano red from napa that we used when we painted my civic.

Factory Paint makes the best primer, just wet sand with 400 and 600 to get any imperfections out. I prefer using a base-coat clear-coat system, gives the paint a much deeper appearance. Follow the can for mixing instructions and make sure you set the pressure on your gun correct. Are you using a hvlp gun?

Yes it is an hvlp spray gun and yes it is a base coat/clear coat im going with. The only concern I have is my air compressor not being big enough, its 21 gallon and 2.5hp and can go up to 125psi. You think that will be big enough? The box for the spray gun says recommended is at least 25 gallon.

its alittle small, but you can buy another compressor of craigslist and link them together and have like a 40 or 50 gal compressor. Make sure you filter the air coming from the compressor.

when you set up to spray the paint will give you a cap pressure to set the gun at, it will be anywhere from 7-12 psi. to achieve that pressure at the cap you need to set the pressure on the regulator on the gun to 22 to 30 psi, this is extremely important to achieve proper atomization. Also if your only painting your trunk, that air compressor should be okay, just make sure you continue to monitor the presser on the regulator on the gun. when you do your drop coat make sure you put the pressure down to around 20 psi and turn your flow down
