finish wetsanding with 2000 and it will turn out better than you expect. depending on the imperfections in the clear, you might need 1000 or 1200, then you can jump straight to 2000.

dont even touch the car with anything less than 1500(in my opinion anyway), finishing with 2k is definitely a good idea. most cutting compounds with the correct pads are designed to get rid of 1500 and higher scratches. The problem with starting with 1k and going up, the scratches on clear with 1k are quite large in comparison, even slight step ups to 1200 than 1500 dont seem to get all the little scratches out and the compounds are designed to get rid of them (and you dont want to be sitting on the clear waiting for it cause youll probably burn it quick), I stick with 1500 and sometimes finish with 2k depending on the color of the car, and the quality of the clear. The cheaper clears your gonna want to finish with a higher grit because they just dont buff up as well as the more expensive stuff.

Agreed^^. I would start off with 1500 grit and then 2000. Unless you can get 3000 grit I would do 1500 then 3000. Very easy to buff out but I know 3000 is not easily available unless you work at a shop and can be tedious if your sanding by hand.

I will agree with the above mentioned, 1500 and 2000. However, I wouldn't use 3000 myself, it's like sanding with a sheet of notebook paper....

The rubbing compounds will pick up the 2000 just fine.

^^^ thats pretty crazy to cut polish your engine bay. looks good though. i normally start off with 1500 grit then use 3m trizact 3000 grit. works perfect.
