Going to repaint..How to tell if rustoleum was used before?
Hey Guys,
Im thinking to repaint my car soon as it was repainted very poorly. I bought the car like this and so im not too sure as to what type of paint he could have used. Is there any techniques out there to test whether or not he used tremclad/rustoleum? Im guessing a test for a fish oil based product rather than acrylic or enamel... If anyone has advice on how to tell it would be great help. Finding out for sure can save me time and money ($200+) to not have to sand all the way down and reprime.

Strip it down to the OEM finish anyways cuz you really dont know how good of a job the previous owner did of prepping it. If he did a crappy job prepping, no matter what he used to paint it with, you run the risk of what ever you put on top of it peeling in the long run because of his mistake. Better to be safe than sorry, if your going to invest time and or money in something I'd rather be safe.
I am with the "rock"
there's too much thickiness, the generial rules are two layers.
after you stripe allt he pos finish down, the big mega dollar question would be why the heck in the world would you still want to use crap paint on it
