Default To lie or not to lie (Getting car painted, and dad says no)

So basically I have been doing an appearance build on my 98 EK sedan.

However, when it comes to a paint job, I'm getting one for about $2400. I told my dad I was getting a paint job and he freaked out about the paint job ordeal. I told him it was only $300, but he has a big issue about how I spend my money.

What sucks is that I already ordered coilovers, exhaust, wheels, and tires. And yet the faded/oxidized paint is ruining the look of my build.

What should I do? Go through with the painting, do it myself, or not do anything at all? The paint is the last thing I'm going to do for the meantime, and my dad's anger is the only thing getting in the way.

Thanks guys.

its your money and your car. you worked for the money so you should be able to spend it anyway you see fit. ask him if he'd rather you spend the money on the car, or go buy drugs with it. lol

Well his argument is that I should save the money (even though I already put money aside for school, books, food, everything else. This is just money I put on the side for my car. Apparently, because times are tough I need to be very strict and be happy with what I have. I have to graduate college before I get the things I want....

He's right.

You can do whatever you want with your money, but spending $2400 on a paint job for a Honda Civic is a massive squander.

Nobody can stop you. You've probably already made up your mind to do it anyway. Just don't complain later when you're regretting it.

I would save your money, but what do I know. I saved up enough money to get a k20 and turbo it, but I saved it. My car is slow but my bank account is happy, which makes me happy. Don't spend all your money and be one of those guys on here parting out your car to pay your bills.

Yeah that's true.

Sigh, okay, well I'm going to be honest and say "tw1tch, I did go to Maaco for this paint job"

It was cheaper than the $5500 everyone else was quoting me for. I just hate to drive a car that looks like a pos with all of the other stuff I have already gotten for it...

I was told even by the high class place to go to Maaco because the car isn't even worth it for a $5500 paint job.

Would a DIY be worth the time and money? My only concern is the CA law regarding painting a car in the driveway... (I think a paintbooth is required..)

Yeah I have heard about Maaco, but it depends on what paint the customer gets and the owner... at least that's what I think.

I mean I'm only going to keep the car for about 3 more years until I end up in the Army after I'm done with college and ROTC. That car is going back to my dad anyways..

dont spend 2400 at macco. if your just going to give the car back to your dad why are you putting money in it?

just asking i do the same thing, my car is still in my dads name ( for inserance i swear) and i keep dumping money in it,
just listen to him, my dad on the other there is no listening, hes a control freak and thinks everything is his, i do it just to **** him off. or every time he comes home, the car is torn apart in the garage, haha, good luck tho.

id just rock it the way it is save your money, maybe you wont be such a broke college kid,

is this even your car if it's "going back to your dad". If it's technically his car than he has every right to tell you no

depending on what year the car is and how good of shape its in, $2400 could still be pricey...tho I wouldn't do it myself unless you really know what your doing.

ps. wheres the tech in this? should be GDD

Don't do it.

It's a trap.

Sigh.

If I only knew how to do it myself, I would be up to doing it. Other than that, I don't know of a paint booth and who is around to teach me.

i say find a better deal on the paintjob. 2400 seems too be alot of money for a paint job for your civic. But it also depends on what kinda paint you are getting

Why don't you save your money so you can move out if/when you turn 18, instead of spending it on your car... Once you live on your own you can do whatever you want...

Listen to your parents man, even if it sucks they are typically right...

You sound silly coming on an internet forum complaining about your dad getting mad at you for spending your money on your car...
