Default extreme haziness, help!

I recently wetsanded my quarter panel with 1500 and 2000 grit to remove some orange peel on my car. It had been painted about 2 years ago, but there is a lot of orange peel on the car. So, after wetsanding it, i rinsed it off and it didn't have anywhere near as much orange peel. I followed it up with a clay bar and some polishing compound by Turtle Wax.

The problem now, is, that when i used my microfiber cloth to hand polish the finish, it made the paint hazier and duller...I used wipe on and wipe off technique, but nothing fixed it...I admit, i am really inexperienced with paint and detailing.

Is this a typical behavior of polishing compound? I don't want to wax it yet, unless it will help clear the paint. in my paint reflection, my upper body is less visible than my lower body, which is orange peeled but glossy. What can i do to restore the shine?

The orange peel was really bad. It could be seen in reflection and also could be felt by hand. Did i wetsand wrong? How do you go about wetsanding clearcoat?

did u polish it back out by hand? because if you did thats really not going to work, you'll want to use a rotary polisher, or orbital buffer like a p.c. most compounds wont work by hand, they need friction to work.

oh, ok.

so it's not related to my wetsanding?

i'll grab an orbital buffer and work on it...Also, is wetsanding with 1500 and 2000 grit the best way to remove orange peel without damaging the shine? Also, how is the best way to go about removing runs in the paint?

yes its related to you wetsanding. You are going to remove the shine whenever you wet sand. You have to use a highspeed buffer and some polish to bring back the shine. As far as removing runs u need to take a few paint sticks and stack them. Wrap with some wet sandpaper and sand only the run. It takes time and patience but if you try really hard you will never know they were there.

not unless u went really crazy on it and sanded to deep. but it don't sound like that. Sanding with 1500 wet followed by 2000 wet sounds good to remove orange peel. On the run u can use a razor blade bent in sorda of a u shape.

What grit should be used when wetsanding runs? I used 400 on a huge run near my liscense plate...

so wetsanding the orange peel with the grits i used won't ruin the clearcoat? I use my hand to feel the difference in smoothness from the untreated to the treated paint and just sand lightly until i don't feel any texture resistance. I don't go crazy and sand until i get color on the sandpaper.

You're forgetting a vital step.

Sand with high grit paper, 1000, 1500, etc.

Use an actual orbital buffer, and a rubbing compound, to take out the scratches, this step will take most of the haze away.

Then you use a polishing compound to bring the shine out.

Then you can wax it.

do not i repeat do not use 400 grit on those runs. Just take the extra time and use something higher.

If you dont know what your talking about dont try and help bro. The wetsanding did cause the haziness. If you ever wetsanded a car you would know that. It just part of the process in cutting and buffing
