ok when you get an entire car painted, is orange peel normal and if so is it included in the price to wet sand it out???

Yes, orange peel is normal. However, it varies quite a bit from very minimal to rough dry spray. This depends on how good the painter is and they can control it. Some have no control and just flat sand everything afterwards to make it look decent. The second part of your question, ask whoever is quoting you, get on the horn and ask them. Generally, if you want a kick *** job without wet sanding you have to go with someone who is highly skilled and experienced. Buffing can also range from just knocking down the peel a little on side panels to match the panels that lay flat to completely flat sanding the surface even.

ok sounds good, I was just wondering typically how much wet sanding generally is done after paint but I guess it varies by shop. It is getting sprayed and "knocked down" but I was told that anything beyond a "factory look finish" would be extra

Don't know where you are getting it painted at but if they are a good shop, they should have a good painter. I usually just nib sand debris or a sag but I usually don't have enough orange peel that needs to be wetsanded.

Here is one of my latest jobs. Straight out the booth with only a wash, no buffing. It also depends on what materials they use, I use PPG and love the way it lays down, like a mirror

Yeah but if he is a good painter, it is so minimal that you wont notice it. It shouldn't have to be wetsanded if the painter is good. I hate putting sandpaper on a fresh paintjob, if needed you should only have to cut and buff it.

Thats correct when referring to completes. Also paint can flow out really well to where most people will not see any peel, like hoods, roofs ect.

If they are saying that you won't get a factory finish I wouldn't take it to that place. Obviously his painter isn't that good if he would say something like that. Even single stage jobs come out looking like base/clears if he can paint. I would just be careful.

he is using dupont material

He said it will look factory or better, but if I want that mercedes or lexus paint finish, then it will cost $$$ because that requires a full wetsand and polish

I see alot of highend cars that come into my work for repair with really bad paintjobs. The only cars that are buffed from the factory are mostly exotic cars.

I wanna see pics of the finished product. How much did they quote you?

That seems pretty expensive for them to say it will need to be wetsanded and buffed for extra $$$. That damage isn't that bad. The antenna is easy to do as well as the holes, but I hope they do a good job on paint.

Oh snaps...

How in depth was the metal work? "Looks" like their doing a good job. If their body work is laser straight and they fully paint all the hard to get to areas, should be worth it. Also if they lay it out 100% super nice too. I'm sure if you had an inside hook-up somewhere the $$ could have gone further.

if your talking to me then there was lots of metal work plus its a full dip color change so all jams and **** are being sprayed windows out, so all that is in the price too, plus my doors needed work, bumpers too. I took it another place and they quoted almost the same price so I think he is on with the quote

That seems to be about right. I didn't know it was a full color change. It isn't easy doind a full color change. It is very time consuming if done right.
for you. Are they doing the bay too?
