Subaru Cyl 3 Misfire Need help!
Hey guys, I'm not sure where to put this so I was wondering if maybe would have any input but my friends' Subaru Forestor needs some fixing.
Symptom:Bogs when throttle is applied and loss of power. Mild shaking when throttle is applied and hesitant. Check engine light is on.
I did diagnostic and it says P0303 Misfire on Cylinder 3.
I did a compression test and ~210 on all cylinders. I took out spark plugs and oil on all of them on the bottom portion. Just a little bit and it looks like they have been burning for awhile too.
I also replaced the spark plugs and engine is still the same.
I inquired into what my friend has done in terms of maintenance in it and she said that she has supposedly gotten her gaskets replaced 3 years ago. That was at 97k and now its at 150k.
I looked at the ignition wires and it doesnt seem like it would be that but she has never replaced those either.
So guys, what do you think? I've never worked on a Subaru before and it's pretty weird looking. lol.

Re: Subaru Cyl 3 Misfire Need help!
While its running disconnect the fuel injector to cylinder number three and see if it changes the idle. If its getting fuel you should hear the idle die down a little. Plug the fuel injector back in and disconnect the spark plug wire off the spark plug to cylinder three and ground it to the body and see if the cylinder is getting spark. You should clear the code and see if its comes back on. The light will not go off on its own. So you may have fixed it.

Yeah thanks guys I was figuring maybe it had to do something with the fuel injectors. I'll try that soon, I just can't figure out where the hell it is. lol. Engine layout is so weird.
I'll try out the other forum too if I don't get any results from the above post. Thanks.

FIXED! I replaced the ignition wires and spark plugs but I saw that the cylinder 3 coilpack plug was rusted and had corrosion. I cleaned that off and it ran pretty good again. But I think we will be replacing the coilpack for my friend just in case since a lot of people have a lot of problems with it at this mileage. Thanks for the help guys!
