lancer evo's
so i would like to get an evo people where im from are all about subaru so id like to get something a lil different something you dont see to many people with and that is an evo but my only concern is how long will it last me? the one im trying to get is an 2003 evo 8 white with 50k and for 17000 im just not familiar with Mitsubishi so if you could give me some feedback id appreciate it thanks
I am right there with you. I totally want an Evo around that year cuz that is all I can afford. I don't know where you are located but here is one Evo forum website I came across "www.midwestevos.com" I haven't looked through it yet but will some time soon. I think I am going to get a civic and do some work to it then sell it for a down payment on an Evo.
I had an 03 evo and loved it..check out evom.net and if your in socal socalevo.com..its a great website with lots of info. The evo was a great car and was reliable to me, but is expensive to maintain..shop around because the 03 are gettinf cheaper..ohh insurance is pretty expensive on the bad side..
Shop around man. In 2006 my buddy picked up his 03 white evo 8 for 8500 with only 28k on the clock. Needed a clutch drivers door and fender from when it got broken into when parked for a year needing a clutch job. It was a marine guy that wanted something different and it was paid off. U out an act extreme pp w 6 puck and its been good. 87 k on the clock and no problems at all other than tie rod end and tires. Lol. It has an AMs front mount injen piping kit and 3 inch cat back on it. Great car all around and some serious dough about to be dropped into it soon. I know he got the deal of a lifetime but still you can find them for less just look around.
about 25 highway, 20 intown. He daily drives it 70 miles round trip to work and back every day. Thats why it went from 28k to 87k in less than 4 years.
He was actually thinking about getting rid of it if the price was right so he can get a evoX. If your interested. haha. Im in AZ btw. He would let it go for 12k, Again with all the mods, and the touchscreen CD/mp3 player and Planet Audio speakers not a bad deal at all. If interested hit me up. haha

Yeah, mainly the mileage is why for a good price. But again nothing mechanicaly wrong with it at all. Other than some minor paint scratches and chips its in great shape and he doesnt drive it hard at all. he basicly bought it because it was one of his dream cars and the opportunity of a life time came to get it. But yeah he likes it because its an absolute chick magnet. haha

I have an 06 EVO IX RS with only 9400 miles on it. Obviously I don't daily drive it, but I used to for awhile and I've had no problems. Great car. Fast, responds very well to mods and handles incredible. To keep it reliable I would recommend you just stick with basic mods. If you have anymore specific questions let me know and I'll try to help. I'm on midwestevos.com also.
For sale already...what's next for you? My friend sold his X recently. I really like the X, but man has the sticker prices ballooned on them brand new.

Had a IX MR, averaged 14mpg....put over 34K in 1 yr. Two set's of replacement tires, one set of brakes. No problems. Loved that car.
Getting the X GSR in a few more months. South Coast EvoM price for 10 X GSR w/ SSS is $31,999. minus 1K for loyalty/military.
I paid 33,4 for a IX MR. The X GSR comes with more options, better deal.
Edit: Brian WTF?

I have an 03 gsr.
Evo's are great cars but are def expensive to own if you want to use the car what it was made for.
If you buy a decent, un-modified and lower mileage 03, and just putt around, it can def be a decently reliable daily driver.
However, if you want to track it, start upping the boost etc...things will get very $ very quickly(ask me how i know lol)
the insurance is quite $ compared to comparable cars, the gas mileage blows, and you will get plenty of attention from cops.
another thing to consider is than unlike a honda, many repairs are a major pain in the *** to do yourself(changing the clutch will take 20+ hrs your first time and is super hard to do w/o air tools and a lift..most shops will charge $600+ in labor for this), so plan on taking lots of time or spending lots of $ to do service things
heres some typical costs involved:
any kind of performance brake pads will run you close to $200-300 for a set(oem pads are around $350)
a 60k service at a shop will be a bit over $1000(timing belt and fluids changed)
transfer case oil is $50 a quart and needs to be replaced every 15k
the front brake caliper seals will run $100 per caliper and unless you do it yourself will cost about $200-250 in labor to replace
brake rotors are $250-300
if you toast your transfer case(which will happen pretty easily if you track your car) a rebuild will be $1250
if you want to drag race(and will be launching), you will need a decent clutch $750-2500 w/o labor, eventually you will want your tranny upgraded also $1000+
just trying to give you an honest opinion of the costs involved with tracking or modifying an evo.....since i have had mine i have spent many thousands in maintenance
that being said i have never loved a car more and with r-comps and a decent suspension setup these cars are unstoppable on track and is truly a race on sunday, commute on monday car
