Changes and upgrades for 2013
Well after one of what had to be the hardest years of trying to make the car work I decided it was time to change what I know was causing issues and upgrade a few other things.
Plans for the car over the next few months are....
Remove some weight, the 2840lb race weight is making it hard on drivetrain parts so we will make it lighter but able to put weight back when needed for classes that require it where I want it. We are gonna switch to some carbon parts, removed the old cage and put a chromolly cage in its place and that will cert, and tube some of the parts of the car that will save weight. Because of the classes I hope to compete in it can never be tin canned as it has to retain most of the interior plus I just could never do it.
Next with the new PP in the car to hold the power it has made it nearly unlauchable with the first gear in the dog box. Clutch is coming out and switching to a much heavier custom exedy tripple disc from Magnus.
Part of the tubing includes the front end so with all the added space I will be also switching to a FFM. And the turbo will be going to Forced to have the compressor upgraded to their billet one.
Will likely also switch to 26" tires this year as well to try to take more of the hit to the sidewall and help with traction. Lots of other small changes to the car and hope to have the drysump motor finished up and possibly swapped in later in the year. I will try to keep this thread upgraded as it progresses.
And so it begins....
a month later
Next is cut the inlet for the turbo in the front end.
Hope to have it ready for IFO in March

Started the car last night. Still have a lot of finishing stuff to do, shortening the dumps and exhaust, the finisher plates for the bumper. Some modifications of the IC pipe. We will dyno it first make sure it all works then do all the finish work and rehang the front end. After we make sure it all works together it will be blown ack apart one more time for paint.

There will be an opening with a finisher plate for the inlet of the turbo yes.
We have removed almost 70lbs so far.

Got a few things done today to remove weight, first was the Brakeman rear brake setup. These saved 21lbs vs the stock rear brakes.
Then I swapped out my modified factory rear mustache bar for one made by Vassil, shaved off 6lbs here.
Weighed it today with everything assembled, current race weight with me in it is down to 2728 with all the fluids and me in it. Still lots of places to drop a lot of weight too.

What is your target race weight? Have you gutted the doors or the trunk lid yet? Also, is your cage mild steel or chromoly? Get us some interior shots please.
Are you attending the dsmshootout this year?

Cage will be swapped to chromolly, car is in a street class so full dash, doorpanels, working windows headliner and interior plastics and carpet.
Goal weight is as light as possible I can always add weight when needed.
I will be at the shootout this year again I am sure.

Which class requires full interior yet allows for the core support to be cut? Even though you have more sidewall to absorb some of the shock wont the taller tire actually be harder on the drive line? That's what I had always heard. I run a 26 without issue but I'm hundreds of hp less than you at about the same weight. Good luck this year John, I think this was the right direction to take the car.

Limited street 5/6 speed class we run here I don't just run at import events. And not that you mention it no class I run in even care is the core support is cut.
Taller tire does give more mechanical advantage and is the reason I have stayed on the 24.5s for so long.
