I painted my block and got the crank in. I painted it Chevy orange because I thought it would make the engine run a little better. :D haha

Got ahold of a ford ranger 2.3l engine from tim. Im using the roller cam out of it. I just pulled the cam out of the engine tonight and put it on my cylinder head. it should be sweet.

I enjoy spending money on my car. It just seems that I go to far and blow a paycheck in a matter of minutes. its hard not to though because I get excited about having my car running soon.

-i have a fair amount of experience with these motors.....i have a couple of questions?

-why the TH350? the T5 is pretty much the same size, its stronger too.

-what roller cam? you can go pretty high in lift on stock valves, like .410. is the head stock? stock height? is it even a "turbo" head? (round vs. heart shaped)

-speaking of head.....with these motors, the power is ALL in the head. stock bottom is good for some huge numbers. new pistons look shiney, 9:1 is good....could've spent the money elsewhere....

-do you belong to turboford?
http://www.turboford.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

-turboford will have your base maps/BIN files for your MS box. there are a couple of users running it, just ask.....its a really good forum. lots of information. lots of parts available for sale from members/vendors.

-good luck with your build. if you need help with anything, signup to turboford and just ask.

I chose the th350 because I didnt want to cut the drive shaft. Also because I had it sitting around and I dont have a t5.

The rolller cam came out of a ford ranger. The valve stems are shorter in the ranger 2.3 I guess. It was also a small valve spring setup on the ranger.

As for the head, It came off of the motor and the motor came from an 87 thunderbird turbocoupe. It has the D shape intake ports.

I needed to buy new pistons because the wrist pin siezed up in one fo the origional pistons and it wore the skirt out. I also had to bore the cylinders because there was a huge ridge on cylinder 1. I found out that those motors are notorious for excess wear on cylinder 1 because that is the first cylinder to get water from the water pump causing the cylinder to contract from the cooler water.

I dont belong to the turbo for forums but I think I might sign up.

ive seen 10 sec mustangs with stock T5's and ive seen bryce blow 3 of them and the span of 6 months. the nice thing about the t5 is that since the 4cyl put low torque compared to a 5.0 which has more trq than hp factory. if u got the 3 worldclass T5's from bryce, which he said he would sell for $150 u would have the parts to build a full worldclass T5 and probably go faster with the manual vs. the T5 simply cause the th350 with rob the output power of the motor.

In bryces case, in his mustang he is running the C6 tranny. which he ran a 13.2 with it and with his T5 he was doing 13.6's on street tires spinning through 3rd gear. (i know its a 3speed vs. a 5speed) which his 331 stroker is capable of running alot better. the tranny takes alot of power to run. if he were to go with a C4 he would go alot faster. josh's dad said around .4 - .5 faster cause it dont take as much power to turn.

but point of the book im typing is that if u build a 300-350hp 2.3 with the TH350 tranny, i believe it would run below its potential.
its awesome u have the fab skills to make that trans work, but is it the best for that set up?
look at all ur options and evaluate them carefully and pick and choose what will do best for you.

what are ur power goals kye?
all im saying is think about it

my hands are tired..... check out the (i think) worlds fastest 4 cyl mustang, runs in the 9s and i believe it has a stock T5

-my next question was in regards to the imput shaft and the snout/nose bearing used with the TH350....

-tell friends......"learn to shift". correctly. gear slammers.....

What gear will you be running in the rear-end? Is this primarily a drag car or street car?
