Local Shop for Roll Cages
I know there are some WA peeps with welded in cages, where are you guys getting them done? You buying pre-bent pipes from Summit Racing or Jegs, etc? or just having the shop fab them up for you. Also, what are you guys paying $$ at these shops, also if you list how much you paid, post up how many pts. your cage has.
So I'm prepping the car for paint. I want to go with an all-welded in 4 point roll cage, with a harness bar and "X" bar connecting the rear well bars up to the top of the main hoop... also want a front traction bar welded in as well as a rear trunk "X" brace, using all the same diameter piping.
I have my own welder if that is the case, just need the pipe bent, and notched.... I really don't want to have to go find a drill press and notching guide to do it myself lol.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Local Shop for Roll Cages
This is a site I have found with the best prices so far:
http://autoweldchassis.com/rbc.ivnu
For a 4 pt. cage, notched and ready to be welded in, the price is $152.95... before the added on bars and additional notching I'd need.
Anyone got any better sites/online stores with better or comparable prices? I'm aiming for local so I don't have to deal with shipping... plus it would be easier to just go in and explain my additional add-ons in person.

eh, ERW tubing which is legal for NHRA I guess, which is obsolete for road racing cages. If it doesn't meet spec for NASA/SCCA, I wouldn't trust it.
Get a Kirk Racing or Autopower weld in if you want to do it yourself.
Otherwise, my good friend owns a fab shop down here, uses bend tech pro software, top of the line Tube Shark bender, and certified welding...

Re: Local Shop for Roll Cages
that price seems awesome, to have a shop do it your going to be paying more for the labor of them to weld it. If your comfortable with your welding to do it youself I'd say buy it and weld it yourself. I've heard custom roll cages costing upwards of $500 bucks for the cheap ones.

Art Morrison, JEGS, Summit- all of those "cages" aka death traps are garbage. Anybody using those for safety are just living off the Darwin theory.
Why people cheap out on safety devices just boggles my mind.
DOM tubing, proper fitment, proper design, and proper welding...what a real cage needs.
No OTS cage will fit good and the materials they use are industry minimum...

Honestly man, just get an Autopower or Kirk racing 4 point bolt in race bar- has the diagonal support and harness bar. This is a MINIMUM....anything less is just stupid.

Art does atleast have the option of Chrome Moly tubing. although **** tig welding an entire cage unless you are building for a specific purpose, not cool factor

Yeah...talk about a pita, plus you're supposed to heat treat the cage after welding? I'm not too sure...you'll never see a RR car with a cromo cage- just too much hassle

I was thinking about just buying a pre-done bolt in cage. I guess I could always just have the "x" bar added on the two rear wheel well support bars...

Re: Local Shop for Roll Cages
I found this Integra with an Autopower cage (or so it says...), notice the rear diagonal "X" bar... I can't seem to find a Civic Autopower cage such as this one..
Where is everyone ordering their Autopower cages from? I found numerous places online, any local places? I prefer to support a local shop if they carry them.

Re: Local Shop for Roll Cages
you're doing it wrong
If you guys want to cheap out on the most critical safety system in your car after your seating system, go ahead...
I just don't see why you would risk it...it's legal for drag racing, but that sanction is also VERY lax on their safety standards...

Re: Local Shop for Roll Cages
best material(DOM), best fitment(every car will fit slightly different, but I guess a 4" gap between the bars and the chassis is ok), and best design(depending on your needs. it doesn't take but one bad cut to throw the entire fitment off)...all of which is not possible with a cheap off the shelf cage...
