Default Reverse light/ HID conversion

Has anyone put HID's in place of their reverse lights? If so, help me out. Haha

No because by the time you finish reversing the HIDs are warmed up to full light output. It takes to long to be functional in reverse lights. Try LED's!

Damn. I didn't even consider that logic. Good call. Imma check out that site and see what I can find. I'm trying to add a different look to my car. Plus, my windows are tinted really, REALLY dark and it's hard to see. Lol

The best PnP reverse lights have about 275 max lumens. Quite a few places carry them. The older ones have the Cree XR-E and the newer models use the cheaper XP-E, but both have roughly the same brightness.

The PnP "bulbs" that are covered with LED's are pretty crummy. Either get the Cree high power models or build your own.

My old reverse lights used the Luminus SST-50 1200 lumen LED's (2400 lumen combined).

I am curious myself. Those would be perfect for my DRL's on my Lexus.

They were far too bright, so later I went back and modified it with a dimmer. 50% brightness (~1000 lumen) is about where I kept it most of the time.

The Cree bulbs are made in China and are sold by several vendors under different names. They usually advertise "Cree 5W", so I'd search that term along with the bulb number (1156, 9006, 7440, etc...).

jlclighting.com, autolumination.com, and v-leds.com are a few places that carry them.

If you were asking about the Luminus LED, they can be purchased from Mouser.com or Avnet.com. They only sell the bare emitter, so you'll have to find a heatsink and constant current driver to make it all work.

There are several alternatives to the SST-50. The Cree XM-L and MC-E, Osram Ostar and the Seoul P7 are just a few of them.

The Cree PnP bulbs are your best bet, although many vendors discourage constant use. Especially in the day time when it's hot. Power LED's produce a lot of heat and quickly degrade and/or fail if the temperature of the heatsink isn't kept to a reasonable level.

There have been many posts on the Lexus and Infiniti forums where members have complained about melted housings and flickering/failing bulbs. It's usually when they're used as DRL's. If used as reverse lights or turn signals, they should be fine. They're not on long enough to get hot.
