Default New to HID kits need help

Ive never had any experience with HID light conversions but i am thinking about ordering a kit. I have heard that they wont work in the stock headlights that are still on my eg sedan and that I need to retrofit them. I dont really know what this means or if there is any truth to this or not.

You can buy a "plug-n-play" HID kit that will fit the stock halogen headlights. However those are crap, are almost always made of stupid cheap components, and scatter the light everywhere and blind everybody.

A proper retrofit uses OEM HID projector lights from another car (the reflector bowl and projector lens) fitted inside your headlights, which maintains the original HID optics for optimum light output. For your Civic you'd need to get clear lenses from aftermarket headlights to get the best output from an HID projector.

Have a look at the differences here: https://honda-tech.com/forums/lighting-107/truth-about-hid-kits-2543977/ and hopefully you'll see why a retrofit really is the best option. Sure it costs more, but if you use quality components, your setup will last a LONG time.

I did my retrofit back in February 2004, and my Philips bulbs and ballasts are still working perfectly to this day.

Cost just depends on how much you can find the parts for. There are numerous projectors you can use. I hear Morimoto projectors are pretty popular because of their compact size. You would need a bi-xenon projector to retain high beam function. They're just a little over $100 for the projectors at www.theretrofitsource.com Also look around on the forums at www.hidplanet.com as there are many people who have done retrofits in Civic headlights before.

link?

Trying to remember what I spent on materials back in the day... Projectors were $150, D2S bulbs were about $90. I already had Philips LVQ-212 ballasts from an old HID kit that already had the OE-style D2 connectors on the wire.

You can piece together projectors, ballasts, and bulbs from Retrofit Source for as little as $350, then you need to add in some wiring and other miscellaneous materials. You can buy harnesses with relays (best to not run the current for HID ballasts through your existing wiring, which runs the current through the headlight switch), but I chose to build my own harnesses, since I knew how to do it.

Im here guy so hello

To the OP... Kits are pretty cheap these days. I dont know where Honda guys get theirs but I got mine on the Audi from DDM tuning. Had it for the past 6-8 months and everything seems to be working just fine. Also have you looked into buying the whole housing from lets say Ebay that has projectors already buid in? I feel that it would be the cheapest route for someone who wants a nice HID look on their car?
