Default HID conversion kit

I found this conversion kit and to me it looks like a good buy, but by all means correct me if I'm wrong thats why I'm here. I'm putting it on a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol SI.

If thats not going to be worth the money by all means point me in the right direction. I want a 10000K deep blue HID kit for the factory foglights as well, all advice is welcome.

Absolute, pure crap. Hate repeating myself but whatever. Doesn't matter what brand it is, who is selling it, what the warranty is, etc. If it goes in the factory headlights, it is crap.

And 9 times out of 10, the bulbs and ballasts are very cheap quality and tend to burn out after a year or two.

Spend (save) a bit more, do a proper projector retrofit, and use quality parts. My Philips ballasts and HID bulbs all have 7-8 years on them and still work perfectly.

And for 10,000K you might as well just put blue halogen bulbs in there, because you aren't going to get any more light than that. I'd be surprised if they put out any more than 1500 lumens, as compared to a 9005 high beam halogen that puts out 1700 lumens, or 2000 lumens from a 9012 HIR bulb (9006 replacement).

Ok, I'm glad I asked. Tell me more about this projector retrofit. Does it replace my headlights and everything or what exactly am I looking for?

See the sticky threads in this forum about retrofits, comparisons between retrofits and PnP kits, etc. There are also some how-to threads for certain cars in this forum, or you can check www.hidplanet.com for even more info.

That is my DDM tuning PNP kit agaisnt a wall from around 40 feet.

A retro fit would be great, but for a cheap *** pnp kit it is pretty good and lights the road up much better then halogen bulbs did.

Is there any place or anyone where I could buy retrofit headlights for my Del Sol to save me the work and headache?

looks like a lot of glare to me, plus super narrow beam output and really bad hot spotting right in front of the car.

There are plenty of places that will retrofit your headlights for you. Obviously it costs more than doing it yourself.

My camera makes it look worse. Trust me, its not that bad in person.
You are are correct, shitty ebay headlights

They aren't perfect by any means, but they really aren't bad.
Beam patturn looks very narrow in pics, but its just the camera.

When you compare mine to other h4 kit's without sheilds, you'll see why I am saying mine aren't bad.

Pick up a set of Morimoto Mini H1's and take on the project yourself. Little to no cutting involved and they come with the correct adapter for the Del Sol. The hardest part is getting the headlights to seal properly.

I had no prior retrofitting experience and was able to finish it in a couple days with great results. Plug and play vs retrofit, there's no comparison.

...and don't buy those ridiculous 10k bulbs. The light output from those is probably worse than halogen. You get the most light from 4100 and 4300k. Basically anything up to 6k is acceptable.

Ok, if I do that what would be the best sealant to use? I'm not trying to spend that much money and time to ruin them the first time it rains

Butyl Sealant

If you get condensation in the lens, they won't be ruined. It's just a pain in the *** because you have to remove the lights from the car and reseal them.

Same stuff that I used and similar to what Honda uses. It stays flexible unlike silicone. Another option is butyl ribbon. It seems to be popular on the HID forums.

It's a form of rubber, available at any hardware store. It stays flexible even after curing.

I'll have to check that out...this might be a stupid question, but after doing this kind of mod when the bulb goes out you change it just like any other regular bulb right?

If it's been done right, yes. When I look in my engine bay I see the high voltage wire from the HID ballast connected to the Philips D2S 85122 4300K bulb, which is held into the base of the projector with spring clips. The HID projector sticks out of the back of the headlight housing just like the original.
