Re: HID vs LED conversion kit?
I still haven't seen anyone doing correct optics for LED retrofits, so I'm going to go ahead and say no... stick with HID for now.
Anyone at TRS listening?

Re: HID vs LED conversion kit?
I was needing to find a forum for my new car anyway and I stumbled accrooss this so I figured I'd make an account to share my input in this!
I've had more than a few set of HIDs, Installed some sets of LED headlights and done a fair amount of research in both comparing the two.
What I've came up with through research and my own personal findings are that HIDs are FAR more bright and produce a greater output.
LEDs are still brighter than halogen and your everyday headlights.
The only advantage/pro/con of the two are that LED headlights simply plug right in to your stock harness whereas HIDs require much more. Even with a kit and a harness they're much more install-intensive. That's where the market has won with people who don't know how or are too lazy to install HIDs.
My vote will be HID until the LED market gets a lot more significant.

The shape of the light that comes out of the bulb is different than and HID bulb, same as an HID bulb output is different than a halogen. They all need optics catered specifically to their outputs in order to work properly.

Re: HID vs LED conversion kit?
I'm referring to the LED conversion kits, not headlight replacement. In another thread it was shown that the Morimoto LED conversion kit is only 1500 lumen per bulb. But those bulb don't have active cooling fan. I wonder if this kit will be brighter.

diulay_pkjai,
The kit you posted above is rated really close to HID lumens, so for sure it will be brighter . I sell the ones rated at 1800 lumens and they also required a fan. I just got a sample from my supplier and will compare to a HID kit . Will post some comparison shortly .

Re: HID vs LED conversion kit?
Cool, look forward to your comparisons. I use 65w 9005 bulbs for my low beam, which is already 1650 lumens, so 1800 lumens shouldn't be a big difference for me.

Re: HID vs LED conversion kit?
I'm still not sold on them really being any good though. HIDs require projector lenses and your best bet is really to retrofit projectors. I'm not sure where LEDs stand.

Re: HID vs LED conversion kit?
Lumens doesn't mean much when you are talking about a light that needs to be focused in a particular spot. One of my least favorite things is ghetto HID setups in stock housings that blind everyone else. 'Custom' shops sell them all the time and people are always happy with them. Just drive with your high beams on if you aren't going to run projectors.
With that said, I'm not sure if the LEDs require projectors or if they are just a bulb substitute. I imagine that require a projector because the 'filament' (if you can even call it that) seems to be focused similarly to a HID bulb.
