Default differences between brand named HID kits

what are the differences between them?? do some actually put out more light than the other?? same as longer life wise?? i know mcculloch and philips is good but are heafty prices...and this one speed shop has some kits for $160 for some JP brands...and this other speed shop for 160 also for some klight brand names...what would the differences be??

oh and one more question, if i do get a dual beam hid, would the low beam output be not as bright as a single beam hid?? or would it be the same light output??

Most HID kits are using the same products, the cost lies with the name (such as McCulloch, Ignited, Catz, ect.) and the "warranty" they offer.....

I personally don't spend more than 100bucks shipped on a kit, I don't care what they claim as their "warranty", most are only as good as the seller (and I've experienced a 250buck kit with life time warranty that got me two months of use and six months of bull to not get replacements) and frankly most are resellers so it's more of a moral choice...

As for the bulb choice, for the dual beam hid do you mean the kit that uses two hid capsules per bulb and comes with 4 ballasts units? If so, I'd suggest not getting them, there is no glare shielding between the two bulbs and it's built on the idea that the second bulb will control the light of the low beam bulb which I don't trust. Output of any hid bulb will be bright period, the only factor is the presence of a glare shield. A glare shield will lower the amount of uncontrolled stray light from hitting the wrong parts of the reflector, the problem still is the nose of most bulbs is uncovered and the civic's don't use a full enclosed bulb nose shield (it's T shaped) which can allow stray light out (causing glare or unwanted upward light)....

i think the one im talking about is different, im guessing they also call it bi-xenon...but the ones i seen come with only two ballasts (one for each) and just two bulbs or capsules...something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/BI-XENON-H...sting

A kit like that is mechanical, when you flick the high beam, the bulb moves forward to create a high beam effect.

Other kits offer bulbs with 2 xenon bulbs per base where the high beam bulb is offset to create high beam effect.

While others have a xenon bulb with a peanut style halogen bulb for the high beam.

As for the difference between kits, just about any kit you get on eBay, if anything goes wrong, your chances of getting it fixed are slim to none.

Edited for proper explanation of moving bulb system.

As for the "chances of getting it fixed are slim to none" comment, as I said above I'd gotten a kit with a "life time warranty" which got me six months of lies and excuses, a warranty is only as good as the seller, be it on forum boards (like mine) or off ebay or off a web site. I'm not bashing, I'm just making sure people understand that even the best sellers (the guy I got from had over 100+pages of sales and praises) can screw you over...

i sell kits for 129 shipped anywhere in the u.s... and i actually warranty my stuff! most ebay sellers just leave you hanging

there are several different grades of ballasts. though they all look basically identical. most kits are in fact made by the same factory. but like i said there are different quality levels.... some have reverse polarity protection, some do not. if they dont and you hook them up backwards.. there fried. easy to do with 9006 kits since overseas the polarity is backwards from us, so you have to repin the harness.

also bulb types. some kits use good quality hid tubes, some do not. aside from phillips/ge/osram there are only a handful of manufactures of bulbs. some are better than others. some leak out the gas and go bad after a few months.
